Merged 3X:Capers named special Assistant/nfl.com/Capers Done Deal

According to miamidolphin.com:

The Miami Dolphins today further strengthened their staff by naming Dom Capers as Special Assistant to the Head Coach.

So he's not DC.

But why bring him in if he isn't going to be able to do what he does best and that is to be the DC? You can't tell me that Muschamp and Smith are more qualified than him.

We The Miami Dolphins will be feared next season, Teams will hate to play us and will be scared!!! The Super Bowl has its name on it!!

whhy on earth would u rather be a special assistant, than be a DC??

Thats a great point because he could have gone elsewhere to be a DC.
So why would he come here and settle for a lesser role?

To pacify Smith and Muschamp and not have them feel like they have been demoted.

How do we know its a lesser role? He could be running the defense and helping out in other areas. Its a vague job description but im sure he has some significant responsibilities or else he wouldnt have accepted it.

Dont be fooled by the title. Capers is there to be the DC, Saban just didnt want to hurt Muschamp and Smith by "demoting" them.

Exactly. When someone is named Assitant Head Coach, it is considered a promotion. So SPECIAL Assistant to the Head Coach is about the same, if not a higher position. Its not a consultant job or anything like that. He will be a full time coach.

Wow, 2 additions 1 subtraction, how big can this staff get? Let's review. 2 ex head coaches, -1 OC...interesting.

Your Sig needs updating.

Lee? Thompson?

You know who is a Capers guy that would be a GREAT addition? Antwaan Peek, an OLB/Pass Rush Specialist in a 3-4. He is a RFA, so they would have to non-tender (unlikely, but you just never know with new coaches etc...Could move back to a 4-3 or just want to change things up). He is a Capers draft pick, has a VERY high motor, is young, feisty and exactly the type of player we need for our 3-4. We really need a Merriman/Porter type if we are going to be successful as a defense. And if not him, I can definitely see us drafting a guy like Manny Lawson, Elvis Dumvervil, Parys Haralson etc. on Day 1.

Won't be official until it's on the team website. Is it there yet?

To make it easier on him to leave when he gets another offer for a Head Coach of the New England Patriots. After Bill Belichick realizes that the Patriots will never beat the Dolphins again as long as Nick Saban is the head coach.
