I have never liked him.

But besides that he won't even be able to play until mid season. That and we gave a 2nd rounder to get him.

Was Brees really that badly hurt, wouldnt it be better to just give him an extra million and save a 2nd rounder?
 
well i doubt saban would make this move unless he knew culpepper was going to be healthy at some point. and remember, it's dependant on whether he passes hte physical or not. and saban doesn't just want to have a one-year run; he's truly the QB of the future, not just the 2006 season.

Why can't he play till midseason? If thats the case then he won't pass the physical which is part of the deal. We will probably run alot this year so lets get behind him and hope he has better ball control.
 
You should really diappointed in Brees... This is the only serious place for him to be if he wanted to win a Superbowl. But obviously.. he'd rather grab the cash... Perhaps with a bum shoulder.. he should... But no where else.. could he have been a winner.
 
I am with you PhinsPhan. A HEALTHY Culpepper is a turnover machine. And he isn't even healthy.
Hopefully he won't try to come back early, cause we aren't winning games.

Do we keep Frerotte?
 
just great cant wait for him to bring his fumlbes to miami unbelievable we let brees go for this guy .........well i will accept him with open arms cause i love my phins and if thats the uniform he wears fine just not my choice for a qb...but still very happy gus isnt no longer our starter
 
1. No one knows yet when he can play.

2. Same with Brees... he may miss the entire season, we don't know.

3. He makes less than Brees. A lot. So if he doesn't heal we will be out a lot less cap money.

4. His ceiling is higher than Brees. IF he gets healthy and IF he gets back to form... he could be one of the three best QBs in football... Brees is a regular top ten, but not top three.

Juan...Culpepper is being signed for the future, not for the 2006 season. There is very little chance he'll start before October and even when he does, he'll be less than 100%. He is NOT the QB for the 2006.

My guess is that the shoulder combined with the price Brees was asking scared them away....QB-wise, Culpepper is a better QB, but injury is still a question...and character as well...

But we lose big time on compensation with this trade...Minny screwed us on this one...
 
First off, I was hoping for Brees. BUT, after the carousel of losers we've been through since we lost Dan, I can't help but be jubilant today. Sorry you don't feel the same.
 
yeah im not pleased we dont have our second pick is another big reason and i dont want to hear the daunte is better than a second yea but not better than having drew brees AND our second
 
im with you guys, im not a fan of his, he fumbles all the time, and he was horriable without moss. so i hope he fails his physical. but if he is here and has to play for us. i hope he does good.
 
Well, personally I would have preferred Drew. I can live with it. And, yes he is less risky than Cutler or Croyle, especially Croyle. Both would have been reaches in the draft.
 
I think that Culpepper will be fine. I never thought that Minnesota had a healthy offense. They threw a ton and I never thought they put enough of a focus on running the ball. Saban's staff is lightyears ahead of what Culpepper had in Minnesota and Culpepper will be in a much more concrete system where he'll have to learn to manage a game and make the intermediate and short throws. I think Culpepper could flourish in Miami.

Plus, if the tables were turned and Culpepper was the free agent and Brees was the trade, we'd probably have cried for Culpepper.

I also take into account that Culpepper had to throw way more in Minny because their D sucked. If you're constantly in shootouts it's tough not to throw picks. I'm giving Daunte a chance before I make my mind up about it.
