merged 9x: Davey released/The real deal on Davey

Does anyone think he can be signed and learn this system quickly? It seems like a tough scheme for vets like Gus who have been in it for years let alone a third stringer who is basically ocming in blind to it.

I will say this, Davey is one of the toughest SOB's that I have ever seen. I lived in Tennessee when he was in college and he willed LSU to win against the Volunteers despite being CRUSHED several times. I hate the Volunteers for what they did to FSU in the Fiesta Bowl, so that made me happy. He looked like he had been through a car accident, limping and all gimped up but he pulled it off. I want him just for his attitude and determination!

Lineham may be interested in him because of some of his Culpepper-like qualities.I would prefer him to Berlin in any case.

However it may be late for him to be of any help this year.

I have a feeling Davey will be invited to camp veeeery soon.
there was a blurb on NFL total access that BB was trying to trade him to another division so that Saban couldn't snag him if BB was gonna cut him. He didn't want his buddy Saban to have him. Obviously there were no takers. Now that he's cut I'm sure teams will be giving him a call.Based on your qb situation and his familiarity w/ Saban, I wouldn't be surprised if Miami would interest him more than any other team.

Wait till he clears waviers, Personally I see no upside to signning Davey.

i think Saban likes Sage. Then again, he didnt play in the last game at all, so what do I know?

I think that is because they wanted to give Gus and AJ as much playing time as possible. I expect it will be the same in the next game. Maybe giving AJ an extended period of time with the starting O?

I don't see a reason NOT to bring him in.

From the Herald:

"The Patriots have been offering backup quarterback Rohan Davey, a Hialeah High grad, around the league. So far, there has been little interest. The Dolphins would be interested in Davey, who played for Saban at LSU, if he were available on waivers."

I'm new so I can't post a link.

Now that he's on waivers, I'm sure we'll make a push for him. Can't imagine him beating out Sage for #3 though, especially because if we get him he'll have to take a while to learn our offense, get timing down, etc.

That said, he'd be a welcome addition.

I see the Bears going for him, with Orton their starter.

I think we will bring him in...if for no other reason than to motivate Gus and AJ a little more. I really think you have to give him a look. No one else has proved they can help us win at qb, so why would it hurt to give him a shot?

i saw him play back when he was the QB at LSU.

his body motion while throwing a pass is so strange to watch. he throws the ball like a balled up piece of paper. it looks like hes throwing a 5 yard lob pass, but the ball goes 50 yards.

i had high expectatons of this guy in the NFL. he will get a job somewhere.

He throws with an all arm motion. In college, he didn't do a lot where he set his feet, drove off his back foot, get good hip rotation into the throw, and release the ball. It was all arm.

I would've two weeks ago, but now this late in the pre-season he's really got no chance of helping this year...unless the top two get hurt and/or suck sooo bad that Saban throws Davey in there just because he cant stand it anymore so he figures what the hell....

Honestly, ive seen our QBs play......its hard to say who's gone and who stays. We have Gus, AJ, Sage, Brock, and soon possibly Davey and Couch. Thats 6 QBs we could possibly have, not that we WOULD.....but honestly, ALL of our QBs have potential. I would NOT release Brock Berlin cuz he is young and possibly within the next 3-4 years he can emerge as a starter. Gus may start, but he will retire within 3-4 years. If AJ doesnt prove anything this year, he's gone. Sage is still young, and can develop. Couch is young, and Davey is young. But if there was anyway we could keep ALL 6 of them, even if it means signing Davey and Couch to a one-year minimum....id do it. Cuz like i said, if AJ proves nothing he will be gone, so that leaves us with Gus, Sage, Couch, Davey, Berlin....Gus will retire soon, so that leaves us with Sage, Couch, Davey, Berlin. If we cut Sage and Berlin, then in 3 years we will only have Davey and Berlin. This team NEEDS a QB more than anything, so id honestly say keep/sign all 6 of them, and they can all learn from each other. Therefore by the end of NEXT YEARS' camp, we know who's best. (Probably Couch) ...sorry that may have sounded confusing.

No!

Considering he's coming from a WCO system and we're in a non WCO system, the biggest obstacle will be the getting used a non-numerical based offensive system.

I think the dolphin's experience with Feely should be a testament, to how hard it is to change between a numerical and non-numerical system.

If Saban brings him in, I wouldn't expect anything out of him for at least a year, maybe two.

definetly nothing this year.
