............. the sentiment 'round here is that Houck can somehow mold this piece of steaming, fat turd into a starter. It happens everytime we sign some castoff.

Need I remind you what Houck did for our line!? It went from the WORST to quite solid without any personnel changes.

I have heard nothing but horrible things about Bennie Anderson last year. Decent run blocker but I think we're in a big trouble if he's starting for us. I've heard bad things about him Buffalo and Baltimore, I'm surprised we signed him for a 2 year 4 million dollar contract... I think he will just give us depth and nothing more.

Well, I don't know if he'll end up starting or not, but I CAN guarantee you one thing.

Saban WILL make him lose weight. I bet he told him that before he signed the contract. Nick Saban tells every signee what he expects out of them, and a lot of free agents find that attractive.

There is no way Saban will let Bennie Anderson come to Miami and be a fat, worthless slob.
He may not turn him into a great player, but I can PROMISE you he'll make him lose 20 lbs.

Can anyone spell S-t-o-c-k-a-r M-c-D-o-u-g-l-e? This has bust written all over it. Hope I'm wrong and Houck can pull some magic out of his hat.

That's part of the problem. A lot of people on this board seem to think Houck can take a homeless guy off the streets and make him a good offensive lineman. As McDougle showed, the guy's not a magician. Just a very good coach.

Buffalo Bills starting RG from last year, i heard he's pretty good but he has a few off the field issues.

I thought he was jills starting LG?

Its interesting that as weak as I've heard Buffalo's O line is that they cut loose their arguably best OL go. Further, I believe Levy & Co let Trey Teague test the FA waters & he signed w/ the jets.

Who would win in a fight Bennie or Seth? I think Bennie beats up guys like Seth on the way to a fight! On opening day I can't see either guy in the starting lineup but you never know.

If I recall correctly, Bennie Anderson played for the Baltimore Ravens. He played very well in the Ravens.

He didn't do much as a Bill last season, but how much noise can an OL really make in one season?

I believe this is a solid pick up, and Bennie Anderson will eventually become our starter at the OG position.

By the way, from my understanding, he was cut only because Buffalo is changing blocking schemes, and not because of lack of talent.

Oh please. He turned the absolute worst line in the league into a pretty decent one. That may have been the worst line in the history of football during the 4-12 season. Do you remember some of those early games, especially the one against the Bengals? It was a disgrace.

Sorry but I can not see Saban picking up this guy just to be picking him. Although he has complete control over personnel I see it going down something like this.

Just after the mini camp.

Saban- Hey bud, what do think about the offensive line?

Houck- Good- good, we made a lot of progress from last season. It’s good to have a full year with these guys.

Saban- So no worries then?

Houck- Um, well we are coming along good, we are alright.

Saban- There seems to be a bit of hesitation in your voice, are you sure?

Houck- Well, to be perfectly frank, McKinney is still just Mckinney, what the hell are we going to do with him?

Saban-Is there anyone out there that you like?

Houck-Is your grandmother still available? Na, na- just joshing ya buddy.

Saban- Can you think of anyone we could bring in that maybe you can turn him around?

Houck- you mean better than Mckinney?

Saban- yeah

Houck- Someone with potential, not to old and cheap right- maybe an over weight underachiever that I have a slim chance of turning around?

Saban- well we still have that pesky salary cap hanging over our heads- oh and we haven’t signed our rookies- but you get the gist of it

Houck- Well with all those options your giving me, I guess the only name that comes to mind is Bennie Anderson

Saban- Okay consider it done- don’t say I never gave you anything.

Positive comments by Len Pasquarelli:

Anderson, 29, will be joining his third different franchise in three seasons, having played four seasons for the Baltimore Ravens before signing with Buffalo as an unrestricted free agent last summer. The recent itinerant streak, however, is not a true reflection of Anderson's value.

A physical in-line blocker, Anderson was no longer a good fit in Buffalo, where new coach Dick Jauron wanted to upgrade the athleticism of his interior linemen.

Anderson may be much better suited for the Miami blocking scheme, where line coach Hudson Houck prefers more size and wants powerful drive-blockers who can knock defenders off the line of scrimmage.

Is Bennie Anderson a player to get excited about?

No.

Will he be an upgrade to our offensive line?

Maybe.

That says something about our line.
