The reason why Buchanon garnered a 2nd and a 3rd and Surtain only garnered a 2nd is pretty simple:

Buchanon = still on rookie contract, 24 years old, only cost 1.5 million over the next two years.

Surtain = going on 29 years old, 7 years 50.8 million dollar contract, 14 million in guaranteed money, third highest paid CB in the NFL.

i wish we coulda kept both, but if i had to decide, i woulda picked to trade madison, basically cuz more years left in surtain then in madison.

Because we wouldn't have saved any cap by trading him.

it sucks losing surtain, he was a great dolphin. but i'm guessing w/ the blitzes and schemes saban will be introducing to the team, we will not have to rely on the cornerback to cover for as long. hopefully our blitzes and confusing d will take pressure off of our db's. i liked surtain and hope he has some more pro bowl years w/ k.c. here's hoping for another pro bowler in the 2nd round to replace him.
