This is one complaint I have always had with the NFL. Dolphin Stadium seats something like 80K. Now compare our stadium to some others (Bengals stadium for example has only 65K capacity) Now why do we both have to sell out when we have that much larger of a stadium? It should be you have to either sell out or at least to x % of a sell out. This is frustrating. Granted it is all because we have crappy fair weather fans down here, but argh.
Incorrect. The true "sellout" capacity of Dolphins Stadium is around 63,000. The Club Seats and Luxury Boxes are NOT part of the total in NFL Sellout Policy. But this also means that the 65,000 seat stadium in Cincy only has to sell about 54,000.....but the Dolphins Stadium capacity (regular seats, club seats & luxury boxes) is only around 74,000 by the way.
Cincy also has a metro population of about 1.4 million, so true they have a smaller population to draw from. But that said, So Fla also has thousands of people from outside of the USA that are totally clueless as to what the NFL is, so our "market share" is probably % wise, the lowest in the nation.
If you check out the TV ratings, So Fla by far has the lowest local ratings for all the sports teams, and conversely has the highest % of viewers looking at Spanish TV stations. Its a cultural thing.....Hispanic women, especially those over the age of 45 or so haven't a clue what the Miami Dolphins are and don't care.
It comes down to this....Miami / Ft Lauderdale is a lousy market for sports, and sooner or later the Marlins will get this and move the team to another market. The Fins will stay because they are established enough.
