MERGED: Cut Block | Vickerson Tears ACL

i wanna curse right now. loud. and alot. THIS SUCKS. we're talking about a 7th round dp that was not only going to make the team but was going to contribute and get better every week. THIS SUCKS.

That probably elevates DT on the priority pole next offseason. As another poster correctly pointed out, an injury like that will likely set Vickerson back two years, not one. No way you can count on him returning to the level he displayed before the injury as early as next July. Traylor is playing on borrowed time, likewise Zgonina who may not stick. Josh Shaw is not as talented as Vickerson or Wright and may have peaked already. I watched him while replaying the tape of last night's game and while he's superior to the backups we played the last two years, still a glorified journeyman. Wright flashed bigtime talent and finally the energy to match. He is so naturally strong he creates disruption even when he doesn't get involved in the tackle. In fact, on that ridiculous weaving Falcon TD run late in the game, Wright got tremendous penetration and changed the flow of the play. Only incompetent play the the rest of the defense allowed a big play.

My greatest dred may materialize as a result of Vickerson's injury: Larry Chester and the do-nothing belly bump for another year.

Did any news source confirm that it was an ACL tear? I'm holding out hope that it wasn't...an ACL tear usually becomes apparent when you wiggle the leg side to side. If he couldn't put any weight on it and everything then it could just be an MCL, or of course it could be an ACL & MCL together.

BTW I hope someone pulls a Warren Sapp-Chad Clifton thing on one of the offensive linemen of Atlanta when we play them. Watch for Kevin Carter to start diving at the legs of any offensive lineman he sees if and when we play them and create any turnovers.

I wish they were wrong.

I started a thread a few months back asking if we should use a similar style of teaching with our O-line, cut blocking. Lots of people said if it helps us win then sure. I think it's the cheapest style in football. Dirty birds indeed.:fire:

This really sucks for Vickerson. He was coming along great for a late round pick. I think it's gonna be difficult for him to make the team next year because of the injury. Manuel Wright needs to pick up his game now as the #4 DT.

This is total Bull$hit...i'm still pissed about this...that was so fing cheap...pay back...is going to be 10 times worse.

It's not neccesarily incompetent play that caused that TD run by Cobb. I have watche dhim the last 2 years at MSU, and he made alot of good defenses look incompetent. U-Michigans, for one.

I wish that were true. But history has shown that Alex Gibbs o-lines get away with this stuff with total impunity on the field. No teams ever seem to retaliate and make them pay for their dirty tactics.

Denver's been doing this crap for years - and they are even in a division with the Raiders! Still, virtually no Gibbs players are ever 'taken out' by rival teams.

They just seem to keep getting away with it year after year. Did anyone ever see Sapp pay for what he pulled on Chad Clifton? They played the Bucs twice every year and Sapp was never punished for it 'old school'.

I can understand how many feel about what happened and I would too but does anybody here really think it was intentional? Not one Falcon fan is proud of it because as you can imagine we know all about season-ending injuries.

It is however disappointing to see these calls for 'payback' from some of the more low-rent members here. But every MB has them...

I absolutely endorse payback here, and I do think it's intentional. I personally hope one of our players locks on to where Gibbs is on the sidelines and goes over there to kick the ever loving **** out of him. That seems more than fair given his history of encouraging this garbage.

Yes it was intentional. They practice that stuff all the time. Vickerson was completely out of the play. I think payback is necessary here. This is going to continue until the league puts a stop to it. It's funny how they can make a horse collar tackle illegal because of injuries. But they won't make cut blocking illegal? At least when someone is tackled from behind they were trying to tackle the ball carrier. Not take someone out that's 20 yards away from the play.

Save it, troll. Everyone around the NFL knows how dirty your linemen are. Save your crap for your own messageboard. You and your faux sincerity are not welcome here.

The only thing 'low-rent' in this discussion are the Falcon players, coaches and fans who cheer for this garbage.

...

actually, if you head over to the Falcons board, you'll find very few who are remorseful... and even a few who ARE indeed proud...
