MERGED: Diversity Group Upset With Mueller Hiring

Here is a link to the Washington Post article in which Wooten expresses his outrage and horror at the Miami Dolphins for hiring yet another white boy. There is also a lengthy discussion in the article regarding the diversity association's dealings with the NFL being GUIDELINES and not a requirement. The Dolphins have not acted in any way counter to the diversity guidelines set forth by the NFL, and have been completely in compliance with NFL requirements. This is just an example of the John Wooten using his bully pulpit to try to bring the issue to the forefront of the media, in an attempt to have the NFL expand it's guidelines to include minority interviews for front office positions.

It has everything to do with race, the point some people here are trying to make is there shouldnt be a procedure to even worry about. No NFL team should have to get permission from the Alliance to hire a person that they see as the best available candidate for the job, without interviewing and minority.

We pick the best guys for the job. Im so sick and tired of hearing "racism" every time. Get a life people. If there was a black guy more qualified at the position Im sure we would of looked at him.
 
God I cant wait for the season to start so all of this crap can just end and we can start talking about some football. The offseason is so slow it just makes things like this 10x as bad as they would normally be.
 
I know it is aweful. Miami is probably lucky it is the offseason, because there would be a feeding frenzy over these comments made by John Wooten.

I agree completely.

Another thing I believe is that the term "reverse discrimination" is b.s.
It is discrimination reguardless of who's doing it. To add the word "reverse" makes it sound nicer.
 
At least you guys have people using American in their name. Here in Canada the only time you ever say you're Canadian is when you are travelling or talking to a tourist. Most of the time Canadians refer to themselves by their ancestral homeland or where they immigrated from. I had a guy screaming at me that I don't respect his people. I said where you from, he says Serbia. I said how long you lived in Canada he said 35 years. I said I respect Canadians just fine, and he still couldn't figure out that meant him too.:lol:
 
What can you do? The NFL is anal about this rule and we all know it. I'd feel stupid if i was a minority candidate actually. Usually when half of them get interviewed, the team looking to hired already has its first option in mind.

I.E:Art shell for us. When we already basically had Saban.

It's just NFL PR stuff to even have these guidelines. Frankly I'd feel pretty lame going into an interview with even the inkling that I was only there because of my race. The NFL is trying to be very PC, and with the amount of money made on TV rights it's easy to see why.
 
I think John Wooten is getting senile in his old age....or smoking the same stuff Bill Walton did back in his UCLA days. Miami can hire whoever they see fit.

Yea seriously. If I was a black coach and I was asked to interview, just so some stupid commision or group would be pleased, I'd be pretty ****ing insulted. Imagine people calling you not because of your skills, but the color of your skin.

I think this rule is a disgrace not only to the league, but to hard working minorities who are selected based on their skill.
 
Miami is racist:eek: last I checked the vast majority of our locker room is black. Not to mention the overwhelming population of the city of miami does not speak english. I know thats a bit out of contex of what this guy is refering to but I dont care. Why interview minority candidates when none of them hold a candle to the qualifications of Randy Muller? This PC policy is ******ed. Whats next? Every NFL team must have a black quarterback on roster
