If us gaining $8 Million in cap room and a 2nd round pick for a 28 year old DB (Admitedly a very good one) constitutes the worst day of your life then you are very lucky indeed

It seems everyone is happy about losing Surtian, there was a reason he costed so much. Its because he's freakin good. A second round and swapping fifths sounds like a bad deal to me. Sabin couldn't even get one of the Chiefs players for him. Our secondry has gone from the best in the league to just another secondary. I'm wiggin out here, anyone else sad about losing him at all. I agree with you. We did not get value for Patrick, unfortunately. It seems that Saban's desire to get another pick superceeded his desire to get proper value for the league's best cornerback.

No, because as good as he is I don't think hes worth a new mega contract.

He'd have been gone soon anyway. I didn't want one year with him, at a position of depth, with a slew of needs on offense and a team that wasn't going to win the SB this year, anyway.

Considering the amount of players we would have lost if we were the ones to give him a 7 year $50 million contract.... no I'm not all that upset. I'd have rathered he stay here and play for less... but that wasn't going to happen. I'd be even more upset if he played for us this year in what will in all likelyhood be a rebuilding year... and then left the team afterwords for nothing in return. Had we not traded him, that's exactly what would have happened... not to mention that in order to sign our draft picks, we'd have had to get rid of a few bodies... or renegotiate a few contracts thus putting us in worse cap situation in the future.

Trading Surtain was what was best for both parties... not wanted by either, but necessary.

Agreed, I don't think many of us are happy to see him go, but the business side of the NFL wouldn't allow him to stay. Not only was it possible to lose him next year for nothing, it was possible that he may have been cut this year. Nobody will ever know for sure what would have happened if the trade didn't go through.

I know it was best for the team and great for Patrick but it sure hurts me.

I'm just glad we have Poole, who I think can be just as good as Surtain.
