MERGED: Dolphins hire Lazor as new OC

Some complaints from posters seem to be Lazor's lack of experience at calling plays at an NFL level. So maybe this is where Philbin comes in and advises him, where they can connect.

Well, the thing is, Joe Philbin also has no experience calling plays at an NFL level. In fact, I don't think Joe Philbin has ever called plays anywhere.

The reason Lazor got hired:
Philly Total Offense: 2nd
Philly Passing Offense: 9th
Philly Rushing: 1st
Folk's QBR: 1st
Folk's TD/Int Ratio: 27/2
McCoy's YPG: 1st
McCoy's Yards: 1st
McCoy's TD: 9
McCoy's Yards Per Attempt: 5.1

I'm well aware that you cant attribute all of Philly's offensive success to Lazor but he was key part of one of the NFL's most dangerous offenses last year. Its important to note that Folk thrived under his coaching and was often seen on the sideline coaching Folks on the defense's looks. He has coached under Joe Gibbs, Mike Holmgren, Jim Mora, and Chip Kelly. The Dolphins last year were "West Coast" but it seems that the Eagles offense had a true and much better West Coast offense then we did. If he coach Ryan as well as he coached Folks then we're in good hands. The lack of running game is what scares me next season. We'll see.

Joe amazes me. I cannot take him. If Lazor has coaches that can help implement his offense, let him bring them in...as long Philbin is okay with them, I do not see the issue. However, he "insisted" he keep on the other assistants? Wow.

Nothing with the Miami Dolphins amazes me. Joe refusing to get rid of his crappy OL coach and crappy QB coach may ensure he is gone after next season

just my opinion but that's the real reason for the philly success...

The whole no calling plays thing is overrated.

I actually agree with this 100%. However, I am apparently in the minority.

Mike Sherman has a ton of play-calling experience, yet his play-calling on 3rd/4th and very short was downright bizarre.

Lazor is doing his conference call with the media now. They asked him what kind of offense he's going to run. His response: "The number one factor in how the offense looks is the ability of the players on the roster."

Said he's still working out how he wants the offense to look schematically. Wants to thoroughly evaluate the roster first. Interesting.

Lazor will have zero chance to succeed if the new GM doesn't bring in a #1 RB and fixes the OL. Lazor doesn't have a Shady McCoy to work with down here.

New hound does his thing. Good scoop Daytona

11 a.m. update: The Dolphins have hired Eagles quarterback coach Bill Lazor as offensive coordinator. The story was first reported by ESPN's Chris Mortensen, a day after ESPN's Ed Werder reported he would be named the Lions' offensive coordinator.

Lazor, 41, has served as an offensive coordinator only twice before, and both times in college: at Buffalo in 2001-02 and at Virginia in 2010-12. The Cavaliers were last in the ACC in offense the year before he arrived and rose to third in his first season on the job.

Last season was his only one in Philadelphia, and Lazor was praised for his work with Nick Foles, who blossomed under his tutelage.

Lazor's first NFL job was an offensive quality control coach for the Falcons in 2003. He worked four years for the Redsksins, including two as quarterback coach (2006-07). He was Seattle's quarterback coach in 2008 and 2009 before taking the Virginia job.

Lazor played quarterback for Cornell, where he began his coaching career, and was a three-year starter. He's a native of Scranton, Penn.

It's good he played QB and had gigs as QB coach. Maybe just what Tannehill needs .
Certainly did a great job with Foles.

lol your sig got me in some serious trouble with the wife dude!

Well, he did well in the past and now we'll see how well he does with us. Maybe our FO did something right at last?.....even a broken clock is right twice a day.....lol

Ozzy rules!!
