MERGED: Dolphins trade Vontae to Colts

I hope Davis plays well in Indy. Once you're a Dolphin I always root for the guys on and off the field. Now we turn and root for Richard Marshall and move on.

With the exception of the quarterback position, no team should fall apart because of the loss of one player. Players get traded, injured or suspended all the time. If your team is that reliant on one player than your team wasn't that good to begin with.

Grantland...

Weeks 1-9: ranked 30th Pass D
Weeks 10-17: 3rd Pass D
"Miami's pass defense morphed from grotesque to gorgeous across the season's halves. This could have happened by random chance, but there's a very telling coincidence that I think might have had something to do with it. Cornerback Vontae Davis isn't on Darrelle Revis's level, and he can lack for consistency, but he has borderline Pro Bowl talent. And during that first nine-week stretch, Davis missed four games entirely while being forced out of two other games with injuries.[SUP]6[/SUP] Davis made it back for Week 10 and didn't miss a single game the rest of the way. The dramatic difference obviously overstates Davis's impact, but he's an enormously valuable player to the Dolphins who makes them significantly better when he's healthy and in the lineup."

Philbin's on some deranged power-trip. You cannot justify giving away a 24 year-old with Vontae's athletic ability and history of shutting down very good Receivers--not to mention him being one of the best tacklers/ run-support corners in the AFC. This is pretty awful, and it makes me doubt Philbin a lot.

Downright scary thought. I couldn't agree more. Vontae Davis' tackling was superb. Especially at the line of scrimmage. There were times he was so fast he would avoid the block and throw himself at the WR on a swing pass and time the tackle very well....

With all the poor tackling ive seen, we could've stuck with Davis.

I like how the people that agree with the trade are bringing up him not being a 1st string corner and him being lazy blah blah excuse etc. are not factoring in that the guy was our BEST defensive back on the team the past 3 years. When Sean "missed tackle waiting to happen" Smith played like garbage, Vontae was busy making plays.

I accepted when we traded our best Wr away for Egnew and a 3rd. I then accepted when we cut our newest Wr even when I thought it was a bit premature and that we lacked depth. Now this? I don't like this at all.

Our team just gave away our best defensive back for a 2nd rounder.....

Guys got talent for sure. However, he showed up drunk to practice last season and out of shape this season. Very professional. Bye bye Vonte. Keep up the good work in Indy.

I can see this pick being used alone or in combination with another pick to help our receiving corps. Can we wait for the season to start before we freak out?

You know as well as I do that that's NOT going to happen. I'm sure Ireland will use the 2nd on some bust o-lineman. I'm furious about this trade.

I tend to agree with him, but on this he is dead wrong! Davis was the only thing resembling a play maker on defense and now we have Smith, MArshall, and Carroll covering guys like A. Johnson which they couldn't do if they all 3 tried together!

Sorry bro, but youre way off the mark here.

SINCE WHEN has our secondary been any good anyway? Not since the days of Madison and Surtain has this secondary been worth a ****. We have been rolling out bums at safety like Y. Bell and people pretend he dosent get smoked all the time just because he made a play ONE TIME.

Im sure if we look back youre one of the people pointing out how bad our secondary was WITH VONTAE. Vontae is OVERRATED TRASH. Does he has physical ability... sure. The guy was a 1st round pick for a reason. But, he hasnt lived up to it.

We swap 3 years of his service, which did nothing for us btw, and in return get back a pick probably just 20 spots or so from where we originally drafted, plus a late round flyer pick to go with it. We came out OK in this all things considered.

Face it, our secondary was going to be bad this year WITH Vontae. Now its just going to be bad.

Im all for Philbin getting rid of these locker room cancers and giving a full year of run to what we have. Develope the players who want to be here, re-assess(spelling?) the situation at years in and draft as many playmakers as possible with these picks next year. We are building the right way. I will wait and see what we get out of these next couple of drafts before I start saying this plan wont work.

And on top of that, Im actually curious to see how Carrol responds. I was impressed with him Friday night. I have bashed him in the past, but he showed me something Friday. Worst thing that can happen is he blows, which our secondary was going to with Vontae in there anyway, and we address the situation next year. It was a good move for us.

Name the times Vontae Davis really made an impact in a critical spot for this team? I can think of the time he picked off Brady in the back of the endzone. I believe that play sealed a win for us. Can you name any more?

**** Vontae.

I swear Im liking Philbin more and more each day. Its great to see a coach come in and clean this locker room up. All the bitching about how Philbin picks trash up off the practice field and wants the players to keep the locker room clean.... I think its great. Philbins new name............THE CUSTODIAN!!! He is getting all the trash and lazy bums out of our place.

Just watch, in time you will all learn to love Philbin. He is going to come in and completely change the culture of this place. Guys who are just here to collect a check or promote themselves are going to find themselves either out of work or on new teams.

I only hope someone will trade us something for Dansby now. If not, this is likely his last season in a phins uni unless he both raises his game and straightens out his attitude. He is clearly on thin ice right now.

Philbin is getting rid of the guys that have been loosing with the phins for the last 3 or 4 years.
I don't have a problem with that, Dansby goes next.

What gives you faith in this teams ability to land anything in the second round? I know you are for Philben and him wanting image and accountability, but at some point you need talent! I hated the Davis pick look back I slammed it for passing on Nicks, but this team just got a lot worse not better.

0-16 seems almost like a lock right now. Trade Matt Moore because Garrard can be the backup. Moore has value. Definitely trade Dansby (though is contract sucks).

This is rock bottom right now. Just take that in.

WV I agree with you pretty much 99% of the time- but I'm annoyed at this move. Vontae is kind of a moron, but he's a good YOUNG corner, and good corners are hard to find. I'm more annoyed because I'm reasonably sure Ireland will **** up the pick when it comes time to use it.

Bye bye Sunday ticket canceling That **** if I domt see a new WR here in 48 hrs
