MERGED: Dustin Keller Injury Thread

I'm okay with the starters still being out there. They needed the work. People get hurt in football, but you can't let fear of injuries prevent you from preparing for the season. I mean, Mark Sanchez is still playing in the middle of the third quarter, although I wouldn't be surprised if Rex Ryan put a hit out on him.

Also got to call bull**** on people playing the result on the injury. The offense had not looked good, we needed the reps. If they had sent the backups out there the same people bitching about the injury would be bitching about the lack of reps. There's nothing like the hindsight of those who talk out of their ass.

The third game is always when you see the first team play the whole second half. This is the game the starters get the most reps. It is football and it sucks that Keller got hurt.

**** Sanchez is still playing and it's the 3rd......people that need the work will still be playing. Anything can happen any given day and injuries are no exception

Absolutely. As the other man says, you can't be driven by fear when you're trying to build a winning football team. EVERY decision the coach makes can have bad consequences. EVERY snap someone takes, even in practice, can be disastrous. A guy can slip on a banana peel in the damn cafeteria and break his leg.

And, not to start a flame war, but... it is not the coach's fault that the team was one cheap shot to a player's knee away from having jack and **** available at that position.

Dustin most likely suffered the "unhappy triad" - torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus. Damn.

The title of this thread needs to be changed, it gives the impression that he's already been diagnosed.. Wish him all the best.

Nice to see some people with common sense. Its football and people get hurt. The o has looked like crap the first game and a good part of the first quarter. its no ones fault except for the Douch that drives at a guys knee with his head down. He hit keller with almost the back of his shoulder. Its not Philbins fault for them being out there and its definitely not Tannehills fault.

It's football a full contact sport what'd you all expect? Sucks that it happened now but It could've easily happened the 1st play of the 1st actual season game. Not saying its a good thing cause I saw Keller as a safety blanket for Tannehill, but maybe these other TEs they got can step up now, or we can find some FA.

Youre right, injuries always happen and they can strike at any time. People need to chill out with blaming the coaching staff. This is a young offense with a lot of new pieces. If we want to make the playoffs we have to be ready for week 1 against the Browns. Theres a reason there are 53 players on the roster. Good teams like the Patriots always have good backups available.

Sucks he was on a 1 year prove it deal... At least he can come back hopefully 1 year from now. Possibly not for us though, and sucks because Tannehill and Keller were clicking. Hopefully Egnew or Sims makes themselves worthy. Clay is a good player for a couple big plays a season but he's not the guy keller could have been.

I don't think it was a cheap shot, either. Tight ends are large. Defenders tackle them low. They're coached to do that.

If you want to "blame" someone -- which we shouldn't, because injuries are just an unfortunate fact of life -- blame Tannehill for throwing a poor pass and forcing Keller to twist around to catch it.

Blaming Tannehill is the worst thing to do....thats just throwing your QB under the bus. Plenty of QB's throw terrible passes to their guys in tight spaces, no one expect some guy to slam into the guys knee. Swearinger had so many option to bring Keller down, you don't just throw your helmet into people's knees.

Actually, that's apparently exactly what you do if you're J.D. Swearinger

Problem is, like I've read elsewhere- when you leave your starters in to play against guys that are trying to make their team they will be going all out looking for big hits. Whats the point playing our 1's vs their 2/3's; just to build confidence? I didn't see any point in having them in there. Our Defense was done and so should have our offense.
