MERGED:ESPN reporting the Dolphins are trying to clear cap space for Simon

IMO it would be one heck of an addition.

I read that Simon has 105 career quarterback pressures. When you average 21 pressures and 6.4 sacks a year from the defensive tackle position...it makes a defensive end's job WAY easier to get sacks.

Not to mention the pressure he would help take off the corners!!
I think he would be a solid addition as well, JT is just blowing people up so far this year and Saban's D would become even more versitile.

Also another reason I think Saban may try to make this happen is because I've been watching the film, and the 4-3 alignment is not working for us. We're not stopping the run from it, and the only ones getting true pressure in the alignment are Jason Taylor and Kevin Carter. Vonnie Holliday to me looks like a pretty gifted 3-4 defensive end and adequate opposite Kevin Carter in that alignment, but Corey Simon makes both the 4-3 and the 3-4 alignments supercharged...gives us the ability to passrush from the 3-4 with Carter, Simon in the middle at nose tackle, Holliday at end, with JT and either David Bowens or Donnie Spragan on the outside.

The passrush setup of David Bowens, Kevin Carter, Vonnie Holliday, and Jason Taylor from the 4 down linemen alignment has not looked very scary unless Jason Taylor goes super berserko and speeds past his OT in a jiff.

i dlike to see us take a flyer on couch, and def grav simon. its hard to fathom that ur front office doesnt sit on there hands during periods of activity like the old regime. saban and his staff are making things happen, hope mueller comes thru on this one

Mueller will come through on whatever Saban tells him to lol.

The Couch thing, I'm more skeptical about...in theory I'm all for continuing to roll the dice until you win, but in reality there is too much pressure from everyone to stick with a dead man walking because of his supposed "potential"

Better than letting Sage sit there on the bench year after year with people clamoring for him to start. Couch can move that's atleast one bonus he has.

:woot: i hope we sign him our d line would be quite nasty if we got him
i think the d line is killer as is. i'd prefer rohan davey, or peter warrick...would rather have davey, but would be shook if warrick came back to fla (as long as is not with jax,,,i still hate them for that 62-7 isht)...

And this offense is one of the easier offenses in the NFL to learn too.

Anyway, some of you probably know that I'm more conservative when it comes to predicting Miami's success this season. My last official prediction was 5-11 hoping to catch a few breaks and go 7-9 or 6-10.

As I've watched the defense and seen it actually be very impressive despite ripping it apart and starting 7 new players on it, my feeling has been more toward 6-10. I can confidently say that if we get Corey Simon I'd predict 8-8. Our defense will keep us winning games while our offense finds it's identity, much like the Bills last year.

i dunno about simon, sure he can rush the passer but can he really clog up the middle and stop the run like timbo used to ? i´m not sure

i imagine there is a handful of teams pursuing him at this point, so if its gonna happen, its going to move along quickly...

we dont run the same system we ran when we had timbo clogging the middle, its a different attack style pentrating blitzing defense, i personally think he would be a great fit

He can't, and we still need to find that middle clogger. For now we have Traylor and hopefully Chester to do it, and what we lack in that department on some plays we can make up for with blitzing and big strong attacking linebackers.

Just wondering...would it be good to have a bigger MLB for run support?

Is that what Crowder is for?

I have a feeling you probably have answered your own question, your instincts are right IMO it would be good to have a bigger LB for run support. Initially when I was doing some study of Saban's defense I could swear to you up and down that Junior Seau was going to actually play middle linebacker, and Zach would move to the weakside. That did not happen, but with the emergence of Crowder I really do feel that next year when Junior will have finally retired, Zach will move to weak side rather than Crowder moving to weak side.

I don't think Zach would play WLB simply because of his size and speed limitations. OLB is far more of a physical skill position than MLB is. MLB you can use your instincts. OLB is much tougher to have an overachieving guy.
