MERGED:ESPN reporting the Dolphins are trying to clear cap space for Simon

CK,

I couldnt help but notice one area we disagree in is where Simon would actually play. You think he is suited for the NT role?

I agree with you on Manuel Wright not your ideal NT and would be more suited....... however I think Simon is more of a Vonnie Holiday type where he is physically more suited to play DT and not the NT position. I agree he would be a great end in a 3-4, but one of my reasons, aside from the salary, why I didnt see him as a perfect fit here is I dont see him as a NT.

What makes you believe he would be suited to play NT here. I agree we are in desperate need for a NT after this year and we dont have anyone in the wings to play NT...... I however didnt view Simon as a NT. Personally I think he is too small and thats not really what he played in philadelphia.

Is Simon going to help us make the playoffs? I doubt it. Our team is looking at a transition year. Stay away from big contracts. If they guy wants a cheap one year deal then sign him, but I can't see that happening, if that was the case he would have taken the 1 year deal from Philly for good money and showcased himself then moved on after this season. Baltimore was going to trade for him at some point, thats a likely spot. Maybe a good team with some defensive issues like KC or Indy also.

I saw the same thing, but I think CK said more for one passing downs, play a 3-4 with Simon on the nose. This would work well imo.
I agree with you in the base defense, whether it is 4-3 or 3-4, he would play the same position as Vonnie.
If we did sign Simon, I'd guess that it would relegate Holliday to a reserve role, but give us very good depth and the ability to rotate them both with Carter as well, keeping them all fresh

I'm going to have to be the lone voice of disquiet on this one. I've been hearing and reading quite a lot lately about personnel people saying Simon is a money-only guy who takes plays off. I sure hope that isn't true. He seems like the kind of signing that backfires, regardless of his huge talent.

yea, but consider the coach. do you think that saban wont get all over him if he thinks for a moment he is taking plays off?

Not only that but consider that he's been in the league awhile,I havent heard any talk like that before about him only half steppin...taking plays off,Corey's not like that. The only objection I have to the idea of bringing Corey in is we have a strong D-line......if it's not broke.....

Any news of how serious this thing is, or is it just another rumor?

After seeing Clumpy's cap numbers, it appears we COULD have signed him and that would have put us right up against the cap. So apparently there had to be more reasons, besides his salary, as to why we didnt go after him....

........ I wonder what that is? hmmmm.

And incase anyone is wondering, the 13 million bonus is more than the Eagles were offering if I recall. :D

I gotta find the guy who said that the Colts had no salary cap space at all to find him..... anyone know where that post went>?
