MERGED:exactly the reason NOT to take a rb at #2/The Ronnie Contract

Ok i love that we picked him at #2 BUT this contract bs is really gonna piss me off if this guy starts b@#$chin that his contract isnt big enough some one needs to tell him dont let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya.

news flash: RONNIE YOU NEVER PLAYED ONE DOWN IN THE NFL!

hey play a couple years lets find out what your really worth

holy **** calm down, we knew whoever we picked at 2 would be expensive. But Brown has said we wants to start praticing asap.

Some people are flipping out of the article while it is pure speculation. Sorry that when I posted it, it made him sound like he was holding out. I added a disclaimer on the front page. :goof:

A lot of rookies are going to be going through all of this. Some will probably end up holding out through all of training camp. I just hope and don't think Ronnie Brown will be one of those rookies. The higher the draft pick, the longer it will probably take to work out a contract because more $$$ seems to take a lot more negotiating.

thanks for the disclaimer. a lot of people are searching for things to flip out about, though, so maybe it's good to help them out from time to time ;)

You're Right.......He's NOT worth all of that money, BUT........He's worth it just as much as anybody else is!!! In other words, NOBODY is worth what he will get paid, but how can you blame the guy for wanting to get paid what others do in his position?

I love how one article about Ronnie's contract starts a boatload of threads saying things like "we shouldn't of drafterd him", "he doesn't deserve that kind of money" etc. NEGOTIATIONS HAVE NOT YET BEGUN people.

And if you have been paying attention to the NFL the last 10 or so years, you'd know that a No. 2 pick will get a LOT of money and a HUGE signing bonus.

Some of you scare me.:shakeno:

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!! A voice of reason. OMG people, he is NOT holding out, he's probably NOT GOING TO hold out, and, we have PLENTY of money under the cap to sign him. Negotiations will be like they will be for any other #2, his agent will start too high, our Front Office will start too low and they'll meet happily in the middle and before training camp starts. Do you think after last years pre-training camp mishaps, they'll want a hold out on their hands this year? NOT LIKELY. Just calm down and relax. everything will work out... Some of you scare me too...:shakeno:

I cant believe alot of you, lets pay him! lets pay him! what happen to the last RB we payed alot to. I KNOW Ronnie isnt Ricky. It really chaps my A@# that people want all this money for playing a game, the only people that should get tons of money are the people that risk there lifes everyday for us, POLICE, FIREMEN, SOLDIERS ect. ect.

That is so sweet. But seriously man, do you watch sports? You know there are LARGE salaries in sports don't you? And you do know WHY there are such large salaries right?

You have a novel idea, but unless you can charge $75 a ticket for an average person to go and see a fireman put out a fire or a policeman write up a ticket or a soldier fire his rifle, salaries will stay the same.

If u look at all the money the NFL generates in a year you would realize that the players deserve to be payed that high!

Without them there is no game and no money!

great news from dolphinsville as ronnie brown and his agent have made it known they want to get PAID. everyone knows as a #2 pick you are going to get a phat deal, but i think brown's agent is asking for an absurd amount. reguardless of what we end up paying him i will tell you this: if our offensive line blocks, then any of the backs we have can be successfull. minor, morris, or harris. if they block like they did last year, brown or anyone else in the backfield is going to struggle to get 3 yards per carry.
this is why i'm against taking a running back with the #2 pick. DBs and WRs are what i think you should take when you are drafting top 5. they dont rely so heavily on other things as other positions do.

EDIT: please note that the title of this thread is "exactly the reason NOT to take a RB at #2"

it is not "exactly the reason not to draft a player at #2"

it seems that several people have been confused with this. i will try to be more clear in future thread titles.

Regardless, the #2 pick no matter the position will always command a big contract. IMO if you don't want the #2 overall pick, don't suck the year before or trade it and it won't be a problem. I am happy with the pick and am happy to dish out the cash. Runningback is a top paid position.

"What can BROWN do for you?"

Thanks Doc. ;) I didn't read all the posts, thanks for posting the link. France sounds like a pretty good guy after all. I'm relieved now, I just hate it when players (especially rookies) could end up holding out and especially Ronnie Brown of all people. Not his fault though, this deals take forever to make. Lets just hope he'll be able to take part of training camp. I'm relieved now. :D

No prob. I'm the Doctor. I make people feel better. Especially the ladiezzzz...

who in their right mind wouldnt ask for #2 cash if he was picked #2?

maybe only "flip" since he hasnt play one down in the NFL or even "thecoordinator" eventhough he belives he is worth the #2 pick but he since doesnt play the position that warrants a #2 salary.

Without us there is no game. There is no excuse for the money these guys make playing a game. I risk my life everyday for 50,000 a year and scrape by with my family. I cant hold out or renegotiate my salary. Never the less the article is speculation and Ronnie seems to be a good guy so I look forward to seeing him in camp with or without a record contract.
