Merged: Finding A Quarterback

man you All are looking Outside thepin At QB's i think Dolphins Up and comeing QB is already in miami ppl i have a feeling if Brock is Kept after preseason that is the the key to the dolphins future and could Be A starter next season if he can get alittle more plying time in Preseason Im sorry But feely has to go He still hasnt learned to scamble and his acc. is crap Gus is ok but Sage And Brock Are better in my opinion I think Brock Berlin is our P.rivers Eli manning or Dare i Say Mike vick with right Help He canbe the Next great NFL QB

Not One person metioned Brock In thier post thats Sad we have the Answer right in front of us Gus Or Feely have got to go

Rivers, Manning, and Vick were all 1st round draft picks. Brock Berlin could not impress 1 single NFL GM or coach enough to even get drafted at all. Brock has stunk it up in practice according to reports. When there was only time to play 3 QBs in yesterdays game, Saban chose to play Sage instead of Berlin at the #3 spot. IMO, Berlin will probably make the practice squad and may develop into a decent backup in a year or two. However, I wouldnt stake the team's future on the hope that he beats the odds and becomes starting material.

what about Kitna i belive he is a freeagent after this yr we could bring him in to play while we develop the qb we will probably draft(i suggest paul pinegar;) )

He's no better than Gus. In fact, I think he's worse. He had a couple of decent seasons in Cincy, but he was clueless when he played for Seattle.

we should drafted Brees instead of Jamar Fletcher. We're still paying for years of bad drafts by Wanny and Spielman

I am going to give my two cents on this much talked about subject.

As of today 8/20/05 the QB in miami is at a crossroads and I am not certain Coach Nick Saban truly has an idea on what direction he wants to go in.

Having Gus start over A.J. would be the safe direction aswell allow you to move towards finding another QB from outside the organization.

If AJ starts regardless of his performance you can make the agrument that he is in a developmental stage this season(considering it would be his second offense in two years).

To me the question is either QB the one that will be quarterbacking Miami when they play their first post season game under Saban?

I feel that like many dolfans the answer lies beyond Feeley- Ferroutte(sp)
while I dont think that Gerrard from Jax or Davey from N.E. is the answer either and I am certain that Leinhart or Jacobs would only led to more growing pains for the next 2 seasons.

I feel that for Miami to grow as an offense and blossom as a true power they must find the quarterback that has NFL experience and is NFL ready to start.

There are a few that are primed like a Brett Favre or a Trent Green( does anyone remember Wanny claiming that their was no signifigant difference between Green and feidler to warrent Miami trading for Green?) players that have shown they have a pedigree for success given the chance.
I understand Spiellman researched all the "young" QB's in the league and decided that Feeley is the best choice, except Feeley never led a team he was back up at every level of football.
One question I have had concerning Feeley( and John Madden reinforced this idea of Feeley simply not having enough game playing experience) why not send him to NFL Europe isnt that the place to develope young NFL players that have talent but not experience?

I believe there are 4 players in the league that can be had and they given a chance to be the #1 QB will be winners.

4-Billy Voleck= Playing behind McNair he gets a chance 2-3 times a year to start and prove given a chance either in Tenn. or elswhere he can play.
he would fit into the Trent Green model as in has played some and played well just needs a chance to be the full time starter.

3-Patrick Ramsey= again another player here where his enviroment has always been apart of his percieved failure, under the 'ol ball coach he was jerked around and his pro development retarted with Gibbs I feel he was never shown any faith (after all Washington broke the bank for a broken down qb,then drafts a QB in the 1st rnd who he himself had only one successfull year)so if given a chance to be the #1 qb and learn one system he has the talent unquestionably- yes their are some major concerns in regards to his mental make up so this would be a gamble, however I view this again like a Trent Green situation proven he can play and play well just needs the chance to the man.

2-Dave Raggone= Not a popular name, yet may be the best chance he has been the back up to former overall #1 David Carr in Houston, has played very little NFL games but played well in NFLE where he showed the ability to throw accurately and wisely.
He has a connection to O-Cordinator Linehan playing QB under Linehan at Louisville and being one of College footballs best players for his time at Louisville, I would make a Brett Favre comparisone here( cleary not in talent only in his situation in regards to his NFL team)like Favre Raggone is playing behind the teams franchise QB so a new team may just be what he needs to show his full talent.

1- Phillip Rivers= Ofcourse the crown jewel of lost NFL ready QB's he has all the tools (talent/smarts/and draft status) plus the backing of one the greatest QB of all (marino) and is in a situation where his future clearly lies beyond San Diego.
If I where an NFL GM I would ask myself who is going to be a better player not only next year in terms of playing right away, but in 5 years
Rivers or Linehart to me the answer is easy Rivers so I do what I have to to trade for him.

Excellent POST! I like the Raggone idea, but why not bring in Rohan Davie or take a chance with Tim Couch at this point? Davie can at least scramble and has a big arm, and played for Saban before. I think we will definitely pickup Davie if he is released.

I also think Tim Couch will be brought in next week for a try out..

Kurt Warner wasn't drafted either, if my memeory serves me correct. All that proves in GMs miss some part of the time.

To be fair, there had been players (Qb's and players at other positions) that hadn't been drafted. Kurt Warner (QB) hadn't been drafted, and he did very well. And our very own Olindo Mare, Lorenzo Diamond, and Wes Welker was undrafted as well.

as far as kitna, he is passed his prime. and waiting to draft someone next year is out of the question, it will cause even more problems

i also like the idea of ramsey but it looks like he will start over brunell in washington so thats out the window

i like sage but i dont think he will work out in miami, i would like to see him go somewhere were he can compete cuz hes not gettin that in miami

i agree though that the future of miami is already there. i think berlin is our best QB on the roster, the stats also show that. hes better than feeley and frerotte. if he doesnt get cut or start this year i think he will start next year.

as for him not being good because he wasnt drafted, let me throw a few names out there for u to think about--- Jon Kitna, Jake Delhomme, and oh yeah Kurt Warner!!!!!
i got 2 more names that werent good enough to get drafted until the last 2 rounds--- Trent Green(7th rnd only 2 players draft after him, and another star Tom Brady!!!!!!(6th rnd, only 7 rnds in 2000)

My point exactly.

as for couch i think he would work out nicly in miami, everbody says hes a bum but if u look at hes #s hes not bad. and he didnt have any targets in cleveland, but in miami he has a full roster

Thank you!

Mikefan22.

I think that Ramsey will get a long look after the season. He was at Tulane in Baton Rouge the same time Saban was at LSU. For whatever reason, Gibbs has completely killed this guys reputation, but hes a former #1 pick, with a great arm and excellent field vision. Hes also a young guy (Hes only 26) so there is some upside to explore.

I hope he becomes available next year, though he originally signed a five year contract and will still have a year left on his deal after this season is over.

Green Bay cut him folks! yes the same Green Bay that developes many quarterbacks (Brooks & Hasslebeck to name a couple). Couch couldn't even stick as a number 3!!!! He is the equivilent to a RB cut from Denver's roster IMO. Why couldn't he succeed where so many others have?

Don't panic, because then you reach and dig yourself a bigger hole. Trading is not an option either. We'll over pay again and possibly look worse. It has to be via the draft or Free Agency next year.

I think its more likely that SD will let Brees go instead of Rivers. Brees carries absolutely no cap hit if the Chargers do not re-sign him at the end of this season. Trading Rivers would take a serious chunk out of their cap.

It seems to me that we could have drafted Brees, but didn't. I really thought then that we should have, because the problem then is the same problem now.

OK, you named 5 players. Now, how many QBs over the past 8 years or so that went undrafted were never heard from again? There are a few Cinderella stories, and you hear a lot about them for a reason...because they so very rare. Its fine to take one of these nobodys and give them a shot on the practice squad to see what happens, but you really dont want to count on them to be the "future of your francise" simply because 5 QBs out of several hundred(or thousand) beat the odds. To do so would be like quitting your job because you expect to win the lottery next week.

saban may be forced to reassess or qb situation and look to a defferent QB. couch is one of them but he is a gamble. my suggestion is to look at billy volek. last year he had 2 400+ passing games including 497yds. he had 19 TDs in only 12 games. he is very good with the long ball which chambers and boston will like. and he is the same age as feeley. he has shown his potential to be a starter but is stuck behind McNair so why not trade for him

I don't see him going anywhere. In fact, didn't Fisher recently say they have absolutely no intentions of moving him? Who knows how much longer McNair can play? He spends his offseasons under the knife. I think Volek is their QB of the future, not ours.
