Merged: Jeff Ireland Gone

Compared to what Itzdick agreed to go into - between having Rex with 2 non-winning seasons running foisted on him, Sanchez as his cap unfriendly QB, cap hell and a buttinski owner who made them sign Tebow to compete with their big brothers in-house, what the Fins have going, all around is a helluva lot more advantageous. And Itzdick seems to being doing ok. We'll have no problem securing a good GM (although admittedly about 5 of em turned the jest down before the hire), and I'm sure it'll be a similar agreement around keeping Philbin for a year and then making a decision based on certain agreed upon performance criteria.

Totally agree. We look like Costa Rica in January to Canadians. Attractive

A lot of people said this…my last part of prediction is Joe gets more power and Aponte gets a bigger title and responsibilities.
I don't think he (Failbin) is getting any more power. In fact I still think there is a chance he gets let go.

Actually, he didnt get canned.

He agreed to leave once power was taken away.

Read that real slow guys. Let it soak in.

We HAVE a coveted job in the NFL. COVETED.

That tells me its not just the chair or the office that is COVETED, it's the organization. That means we have important pieces in place that people want to work with and develop. They see success and winning here.

Let it sink in a little longer.

Aponte, Tannehill, Philbin, Ross.... these are what they are talking about.

Stop thinking "Philbin next year if...". The Gods of the NFL look favorably upon us because of pieces we have and the people in charge.

Those names are gonna be here a while. And people want to be a part of it.

It's a great day to be a Phin. Soak it up. And show some pride.

EDIT: I thought FinHeaven would have blown up and crashed by now. :)

Way to go Staff!
You're probably reading into that a bit too much. We're an NFL franchise with considerable tradition in a major market. GM positions are pretty coveted even in the worst of circumstances. Right now we're a mediocre team that any prospective GM is going to have enough ego to believe they can turn into a contender. I don't think those members of our organization you mentioned are particular draws or deterrents.

the other thing is philbins worse detractors are on this board and this david canter guy...he's respected in the league

again no hard sell...i don't see a lame duck hc situation in the works here at all...with sparano it was obvious

Agreed. Unless next season is a total disaster or the new GM really doesn't think Philbin is very good then Philbin is here for another 2 years at least.

it's not a hard sell...remember what the consensus around the league is about the qb...very favorable i can tell ya that

i bet people jump at it...you have the toughest thing to find already and the one that if you dont gets you fired the quickest...not a hard fix either if you don't screw it up

i'm with the fire all the scouts crowd...

Agreed. A big part of why Darlington is saying the job is coveted. It sure ain't because working for Ross is fun. It's because the biggest riddle is solved: get a QB.

I think this is a very appealing job. My reasoning:

1. I think the QB is a big net positive.
2. Great cap situation.
3. Owner willing to spend massive amounts of money to win.
4. Owner demonstrated that he was willing to keep a guy on for SIX YEARS of failure before a complete fan revolt finally, FINALLY forced his hand. And even then he wouldn't FIRE the guy outright.

The key now is to find the right person. Where were the last couple of new GMs hired in the NFL? Carolina and the Jets? They also got one year tryouts of coaches. Seemed to work out OK in both places, no?

I think Ross is a big part of the sell, he doesn't meddle or even seem to give 2 ****s.
