Tony Dungy's last 3 seasons in Tampa were 11-5, 10-6, and his last year was 9-7....people say the Bucs got progressively worse under Gruden...but fail to mention that they were a clear trend to below .500 under Dungy.
The Bucs didn't have a good enough offense to take this team to where they needed to be in before Gruden and after Gruden. Gruden didn't really have a good enough offense to get his team to the super bowl to begin with. That offense ranked 24 in the league and was still one of the worst offenses in the league. In 2002 the Bucs ranked 14th in passing touchdowns, 15th in passing yards, 27th in Rushing yards, and 31th rushing touchdowns. The offense ranked overall 24th in the league.
The 2001 year under Dungy they were pretty much as worse. They ranked 2nd in rushing touchdowns, 30th total rushing yards, 15 passing yards, 28 passing touchdowns. Overall they ranked at 26th overall offense. So this offensive Guru came into Tampa to improve the offense by a mere 2 spots.
You know what improved? The same defense that was already 6th best in the league to the best in the league. Holding quarterbacks to 47.6 or so Qb rating, 43 sacks, 31 interceptions, 4 touchdowns, allowed 18 touchdowns, 4000 total yards (best in the league that year), no one rushed against them over 100 yards, and were led by Kiffin and not Gruden.
If you want Gruden so bad then go for it. Don't come back to these forums crying about our team still sucking.
