Merged: Matt Flynn to Seattle

They're now saying that Flynn really only signed for 19 million over 3 years. If true, I doubt Ireland "low balled" him. I think Miami just chose to go another direction. What direction? I have no idea.

I guess it could also be possible Miami would hand him the starting job and Seattle would

I have a hunch we will sign Alex Smith.

He turned down a contract from the 49ers for EIGHT to NINE million a year...

Ireland the clown was lowballing Flynn for only FIVE a year...

Please don't get your hopes up...

As we said this morning, Smith was in here to get leverage AND so the dolphins get leverage on Flynn...It failed on our part...It will succeed for Smith.

Hmm let's see, they weren't willing to offer Flynn the amount of money he felt he deserved, for whatever reason, so they called A. Smith to inform Flynn and his agent, by their actions they have other options.

It's seems abundantly clear to me, Philbin wasn't as high on Flynn as we were. Of course that's just my opinion, however an opinion based on the facts as we know it. Not an over emotional reaction that some ppl have been posting on this MBoard since Manning turned us down. People just need to grow up, and realize this is the real world, and you can't get whatever you want. In fact, most times you don't get half of what you want.

And I agree, A. Smith is Plan C. I don't have an issue with that. I'm glad they thought that far ahead. The main point is, what does Philbin really think of Flynn. By their actions, again, IMO, not as high as a lot of Miami Dolphin fans.
That makes a ton of sense. No, really. Not being sarcastic at all. Philbin, a direct inside source into Flynn's abilities, wasn't high on him, so they interview him first and even reportedly make him an offer for no reason at all, because they never had any intention of giving him an offer he would actually accept. Brilliant and totally sensible move. I do the same thing sometimes. I can't stand creamed corn. I think it's the texture. Reminds me of vomit. But sometimes when I'm feeling a little crazy, I throw some in my basket to bring up to the register, where I leave it because I never had any intention of buying it in the first place.

This F.O. blows and continues to cost the team. Our roster is actually worse than the 6-10 roster, and somehow people are okay with that. I truly feel bad for Philbin. This FO is setting him up for epic failure.

Been a phin fan for 29 years and stopped watching them 3 years ago this will make 4. this team will always be bad with ROSS as the owner. it doesn't matter who the coach is with ross and Irealand still here and until they are gone f**k this team and the nfl until then.

Must admit I'm surprised. I didn't really want Flynn but Seattle have got him a lot cheaper than I thought.

10m guaranteed for a starting QB and no draft picks to pay ? That really doesn't break the bank even if Flynn doesn't pan out

to Manning, next Flynn, next Alex Smith, next Garrard...going nowhere fast. DISAPPOINTING...

The thing that sucks for me is, in addition to losing out on Flynn, I live in Portland, and everyone here is a Seahawks fan... really considering calling in sick to work for the next six months or so

I'm not sure why it's so hard to comprehend why you would talk to a player in FA and have a set number you are not willing to go beyond. The Patriots do this all the time.

The reason you bring him in is because you want him for a certain price. Again, I would think that price was set based off of Philbin's opinion of Flynn. I may be wrong. Maybe Ireland is a secret Nazi and just does w/e the F he wants based off of inner voices. You guys may actually have something there. lol

You are entitled to your opinion, my opinion is Ireland seems to have a multi-layered plan and refuses to sway from that plan in a significant way. Even if that means the Dolphin fan base continues to act like children.
