Merged: Rick Spielman is a GENIUS....../Rick Spielman Thread

I consider Booker a little better than Davis. Suggs better than Gordon so we got half and half.
Davis is Cleveland's 2nd best WR behind Morgan and had to beat out Northcutt to be the #2. So he is the #2 WR on a very bad team and if they didn't cut Kevin Johnson last year because of "personal" reasons he would be their #3 WR. Booker was Chicago's #1.

Booker has been to a Pro Bowl. Davis hasn't.

Booker has had 2 HUGE years. Davis hasn't had 1.

Suggs has had 1 good game in his NFL career. Gordon has proven he can be a RB on a team that wins games when he played when Faulk went down. Would I take Suggs over Gordon, probably. But they are probably considered equal.

How you can so that Booker/Gordon isn't better than Davis and Suggs is crazy!

Should have merged other RS thread.

My thoughts on the job he has done form other RS thread which they did not merge.

Lamar Gordon - Your new starting RB, explosive, can break tackles, and run between them.
Marty Booker - Will have biggest offensive numbers. Love this guy. Lets Chambers play his game.
Lamont Brightful - Excellent return man, better than ANY we have had in a long time. Does fumble some.
Bryan Robinson - Another stud lineman. May start at LDE in time.
Chidi Ahanotu - Situational high motor guy. Good spark off bench.
Bryan Gilmore - Big time speed. Good ST flyer. Obviously courting on him if only other WR, after starting 3.
Jamar Martin - Big blocking back, will help in goal line and short ydg.
Jed Weaver - If signed, will be good depth. Always played well when here before. He is good on kick coverage too.

Say what you will about Spielman, but there is no denying he is constantly working to improve the roster. Of course this is his job, but he has not stood pat or accepted the hand he has been dealt ( Boston, Williams, Ogunlye) and moved to replace or improve the positions that much of this years negative PRESS has been about. He has added some damn good players in the last few days who have upgraded positions where lesser players once were. That is 8 new, quality, players in the span of a couple of weeks. Talk about aggressive!!!!People talk about all the "negativity" surrounding the Dolphins now. While it has been a lousy offseason, much of the "negativity" has been created by the media. We have no idea how these players are actually behaving in the huddle, on the field, at home, or in the locker room. They could be on a mission, have a chip on their shoulder, and come out very fired up. All of this offseason turmoil may actually work in our favor now that SPIELMAN has added some more quality bodies. Now looking at the net gain on this year vs last year, where have we lost? Most positions, other than QB unfortunately, HAVE been upgraded. Williams and Ogunleye are losses, but Gordon and Robinson will help offset somewhat.

Everything goes back to the offensive line. None of this matters if they don't get good production up front. 9-7 or 10-6 is not unrealistic.
I also look for McIntosh to move in to the starting line up within a couple of weeks. PS - ALL OFFENSIVE LINEMAN TAKE 1-2 YEARS TO DEVELOP AND BE READY TO START IN THIS LEAGUE. PERIOD..........................CAREY, WHITLEY, AND SMITH ARE NOT BUSTS OR EVEN ANYTHING CLOSE TO THAT. GIVE THEM ALL A LITTLE MORE TIME. FOR GODS SAKE...........ROBERT GALLERY WAS MOLVED TO GUARD BECUASE HE WAS NOT READY TO START AT LT. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE SECOND COMING OF JONATHEN OGDEN.

Rick Should Get Football Executive Of The Year.
A little early for that but I feel he has done a good job considering the hand he has been dealt. No other GM has been dealt the crap he has so if he can make this team work this year than he definently gets that award.

he was a huge risk even physically. What he's done to his body was not normal under any circumstances. I also bet he was a class act in preseason on both of his former teams. I guess we won't find out what he's like in regular season. I wouldn't be surprised if he never see's the football field as a fin, ever.

Dude..we traded a 6th round pick and got to get rid of Fletcher for a guy that has awesome potential....it was a great Risk vs. Reward deal.

I don't feel Davis has reached his potential yet and is a better athlete than Booker. That being said, you are correct in that Booker has been more productive so my assesment of a little better is wrong. Suggs just won the Cleveland job straight out and will get most pof the carries in Cleveland. I see him having a little more shake than Gordon and a better receiver. As for Gordon, I see the upside and am happy about the tradebut wonder why ST/ L went after Jackson and took so long to deal him.

Davis is a rising talent. Booker is as good as he is going to get. This year Booker may be better, but in the end I believe Davis will be a star. He might just do it this year with Cleveland now having a QB.

Just want to say too many people are jumping on the Suggs bandwagon. He has yet to start one game in the NFL, but did have one nice game against a weak D, lets also remember it was the last game of the year last year and he has not been a durable back.

I think the Cleveland combo is better though.

Not comparable. Davis/Suggs is far better.

That does not seem to be the consensus.... I guess you missed the part where I said that he got the BEST deal he could make. Cleveland said NO...remember?

Lets see how he performs on the field before labling RS a Genius. Also there are no geniuses in football. Einstein was a genius.

We'll see...I like Spielman's chances....

Not rocket science. Why wouldn't a team take a 3rd rounder for a 3rd string backup? I would.

He was not thought of like that....he was thought of as Faulks replacement along with Jackson..He was also drafted in the third round...The premise of your question is flawed.

He did? Does Miami have the last pick in the 1st? Yes. Miami is Super Bowl Champs.

He did.....If the Fins finish better than the Bears..we move up...remember that we traded OUR 3rd round pick...not the Bear's.

Yea, hmmm ok. He turned a All Pro DE into a former PB possession WR and a 3rd string RB. Must have been hard.

A good DE that seems to be a dime a dozen in our system (Owens, Bromell, Armstrong, Ogun) for Two starters and one of them is a former Pro Bowler that gives us the first threat opposite Chambers since he has been here.

Brunell? Get real.

Get Real? Are you kidding? Brunell is set to have a Pro Bowl season in Washington.....

That was a weak effort.....

c) Boston was a waste of time (ask Cards and SD, they knew)
Boston was a great trade man... He did EVERYTHING we asked. This can not be considered a bust because we was hurt...

MikeO,

I have the answer for you. He's not a genius but I think the question you are asking is if he was just lucky.

Luck can fall upon anyone who keeps trying. That's the key ingredient here. He kept trying. Instead of coming out and saying, "the season has started and the players are on roster" he continually works to improve this team.

That is the genius. He doesn't give up.

Rick "Bulldog" Spielman

I think you're wrong. Last year he fought with his strength coach during preseason and wanted to play at the weight he desired. He also got into a scuffle with Marty during the season. In Arizona he supposedly used to break every rule he could and when he was confronted about it he would threaten to not play, unfortunately for him they would let him get away with it...further creating the monster that we hear about today. I truly believe he was trying to rectify his career and rep in Miami.

IM not knocking Rick, don't get me wrong here. Im just saying I would say he was more lucky than genius these past few weeks. You make your own luck and Rick will get all of the credit if these moves pan out, but if Cleveland said yes to Davis/Suggs........then we never see Booker (who is clearly better than Davis) and we don't get Gordon (who might be comperable to Suggs or maybe looked at as slightly less.
Well the Pats are lucky as **** and look where it's gotten them. I'll take lucky...

Are you lost?

No obviously you are. Look at your post I was responding to. You state questions about the dolphins that need to be answered, I basicall came back with that is a no sh*t post. Everything both teams have done are still questions whether you approve of them or not. You stated the obvious about our team, I stated the obvious about yours.

To make it clear, knock the moves we made all you want, it isnt like your team is free of concern as well. GET IT?
