MERGED: Schefter and Mort: Miami will be in mix for Manning

Don't know what everyone here who wants Manning is smokin' but answer this question: If he could come back anywhere close to what he was why would the Colts let him go??? He IS the franchise there and if they let him get away that should tell you something. You can believe all the crap you want about making room for the future, Luck, etc. but the NFL is a win now league and if Colts are letting him go that means they know he won't be the same and/or playing much longer or at any level close to what he was.

So, although our dopey FO office will probably make this move, we'd be dumping millions on a QB who will prob wind up being a shell of his former self, afraid of taking hits (rightfully so considering the injury) who will play for maybe a season or two instead of getting someone like Flynn, etc. who at least is healthy, young and seems to have a bright future, can be further developed and play at a high level for years to come with no concerns at this point that one hit might knock him off the team forever.

I loved watching Manning play, I rank him as one of the best to ever play the postion just like Dan "The Man". But with that injury I am not sure what he will look like and the possiblity of him taking a hit and him being completely done scares the hell out of me if we make an investment like that. I think I would have to go with Flynn if Philbin has high praise for him.

Interesting article from back in Sept. about Manning's injury:

http://www.footballphds.com/2011/09...-at-peyton-mannings-neck-injury-with-dr-riaz/

From the article and very telling:

"The most concerning aspect of Manning’s health is the probability that he has weakness in his arms. If he has diminished strength from his healthy baseline, he is unlikely to recover any time soon, if at all."

&

"How serious is this, Doc?

Very much so. Let me put it this way: if Manning were a bricklayer and applied for permanent disability through Social Security, he would ultimately get permanent disability because of the fact that he has already had two cervical surgeries to correct issues with pain and neurological deficiencies and has to use his hands to make a living."

His spine is stronger after the fusion than it was before...its a matter of whether the nerve has regenerated sufficiently. If it has and our doctors clear him, why not hire him. Its only money and at the very least his presence and vast knowledge of the position will benefit the team. As far as comparing his recovery with those on this board, c'mon, the guy is an elite professional athlete...there is NO comparison. Sign him up Ross!

Ok Doc, Thanks!

Exactly!!! This is what most fans refuse to see .. just because a ONCE Great QB MIGHT be available, doesn't mean he's healthy!!! I Live it everyday, Spinal Fusion is not like a torn ACL or MCL ... and Just because he play's in the NFL doesn't excuse him from the after affects of his injury and subsequent surgeries ...

When would we have any real health updates on Manning? I keep hearing "if" Manning is healthy teams will pursue him but when will we know if he's worth pursuing?

If he was 100& healthy we were guaranteed 3 seasons of peyton manning, I would take that in a heartbeat, I think he would instantly make us a superbowl contender in a weakening AFC, but that is completely hypothetical and one hit could knock him out again, I think would be a serious risk.

As long as his replacement is "waiting in the wings", I'd be down with him being a Dolphin for 3 years.

high risk high reward kind of deal with Manning......I don't want them to try to fix our team with one single guy that might never play again.

Ozzy rules!!

No thanks....Pennington 2.0 waiting to happen. Let's stop putting ourselves in the position to get our heart broken.

We will only hire him if he is deemed healthy. If he passes a physical...HIRE HIM! If he doesn't he will retire.

if manning turns out to be healthy , how is this a bad idea? for those that claim manning is done and will never play again, can you please provide proof ? and for those who claim that they had the same surgery and still have weakness in there arms, please don't tell me that you people think that the average person can afford the same level of intense therapy and rehab that a pro athlete can get.
man i wonder what some people are thinking on this board. i sometimes wonder if people come on here just to argue with each other.
sorry but in my opinion a healthy manning is a better option than any other qb available (in my opinion) and comparing manning to that diva favre. LMFAO!

Not wanting to argue, just being realistic. Manning has had 3 neck surgeries in 2 years and missed an entire season. He is 36 years old I believe. I have seen this song and dance before. Aging QB, still thinks he has something left in the tank, goes to new team, it doesn't work out, yet fans think because he was once great that he still will be. Montana, Favre, Namath, Unitas - they all did it. How did it work out for them and their new teams? It didn't.

The guy went to Europe to get a treatment that doctors here have yet to approve. He had stem cell treatment on a bulging disk on his neck. I'm not sure he will even clear a physical. He is done...

"
It’s same to assume that Manning has numbness and loss of strength in in his hands and arms."
