MERGED: Schefter and Mort: Miami will be in mix for Manning

its hard to explain but i really don't want manning here, rather just develop a young guy and roll with him.

It would sell tickets though

I don't care about tickets, I want championships, and if Ross is worried about the tickets, fix the problem without resorting to a QB 1 hit away from being done, and those tickets will come 10 fold.... Then again, I want Flynn.

Anyone who does not want to take a chance on Manning is INSANE. Have you not seen our QB play the last 12 years. Even if we get 2 years, that 2 years of SB contender. That anyone would not want him is mind boggling...

There will always be another Matt Flynn to go after. Manning is one of a kind, even if its for a short period.

I'm shocked a lot of you wouldn't want Manning. You guys are crazy. I'll take him in a heartbeat.

manning was and could be incredible but he may never play again or is one hit from never playing again (though i guess that can be said about anyone in this game). how many years would we get out of him? would we again be putting off a long term fix at qb for a shot at the playoffs for a year or 2? its a tough call but we all know were going to need to get a younger player in here to takeover very soon. this would be a moot point if manning was 31 or 32 and coming off a knee or some other run of the mill injury.

Wow... that's all I can say is wow.

I certainly hope calmer heads prevail in the organization than on this board.

"IF Peyton is 100%..."

IF PEYTON WAS 100%, the Colts wouldn't be going in a different direction. I said this last week... the Colts aren't just changing a few pieces, they are conducting a complete regime change: VP, GM, Coach, Peyton.... everything. You don't do that if you have confidence in the central piece of the puzzle... PEYTON. If they felt Peyton was 100%, they'd keep him and make a last run at the SB while ALSO drafting Luck as the heir. Luck is NOT going to be a financial problem. Peyton isn't either if they commit to making a last push. Peyton is done. Period.

And I'm just shell shocked at statements calling Flynn another Kolb or Feeley. Are you kidding me? The guy who DEVELOPED him is our COACH. You can't have a better vote of confidence for your HC than having HIS guy taking snaps. Flynn isn't going to another system or coach. He would be coming into the very system that made him desired. Talk about apples and oranges.

You'd trade MAYBE 1 or 2 years of Peyton doing his best Joe Glass routine vs. a potential decade with Flynn? REALLY?!

I guess all that calm and mature talk about us picking the right guy with Philbin had to succumb to the continued frenzy of irrational thoughts, eventually. Even when major media and coaching legends call us an "impossible" situation to deal with... we still don't get it.

Keep thinking we are only 1 player away from the Super Bowl. Failure has a lot left to teach.

Beck v. Ryan
Beck v. Jesus
Beck v. Mohammad
Beck v. Joseph Smith's integrity
Beck v. Joe R
Beck v. McCown
Beck v. Parcells

Hahaha.

It's Ross' money...why do people care? If he turns out to last the entire season, we can be super bowl contenders for the first time in a long time. If not, oh well, Ross wasted money, but not draft picks.

If the Dolphins aren't bold, they won't make a playoff run. It looks like they know this, going after Manning, Flynn or RG3 is what it seems like they will do. They hopefully get one.

I'd rather have RG3, but that might not be possible. Manning plus someone like Tannehill maybe (and Matt Moore is still on the roster) would be better than an unknown in Flynn.

1. This has SMOKESCREEN written all over it.

2. This is an attempt to avoid any Brees-like recriminations. They will do due diligence and it will eventually come out that he cannot even FUNCTION, let alone play QB in the NFL. If Brees' shoulder didn't hold up, he is an NFL bust... but ALIVE. If Manning's neck blows out he could be a QUADRAPLEGIC at best.

3. Our QB's in 2012 will be (in no particular order) Flynn, Moore, and Tannehill. Not too many teams can top that.

I would have no problem with Manning coming here, I would welcome it with open arms as long as he is healthy. You have Moore as a nice backup, and then you can draft a guy like Tannehill to sit for awhile and learn. Get a few good years out of Manning and I am happy.

They all come with a risk, but a healthy Manning is going to be better then any of the other options out there.

I wouldn't mind picking up Peyton. This might be another Joe Montana situation where an older guy goes somewhere else and is still productive. Montana took KC to the AFC Championship Game his first year there didn't he?

There is one big hangup to all of this though. As much as I don't like taking linemen in the first round, and I know none of you do either, if we pick up Manning we may have no choice than to get a good RT with our first pick. Colombo was about as bad as it gets.
