Merged: Sturgis may lose a part of his job/Extra points

That rule would be ****ty.

There would be so many quick calls that I couldn't watch the sport anymore.

I'm sure they would come up with some other counter-rule to help the offense as it would certainly swing some of the balance of the game back in favor of the defense.

Just make the extra point a bit more difficult. NARROW THE GOAL POSTS!!!

This needs to be done for FGs anyway. FGs are being hit at a record percentage over the last few years. Those need to be more difficult as well. The extra point should be fairly automatic, but not completely eliminated. Just narrow the goal posts. Kickers are too accurate.

99% of extra points should be made anyway. Narrowing the posts would allow for a few more misses. Not many, but a few.

So what about 3 point attempts? Wouldn't narrowing the goal posts not even make it worth trying for a 30 to 40 yard field? I mean if you narrow the posts teams wouldn't even try for 3 point field goals.

Just push the extra point attempt back a bit to make it less easy. Twenty yard line?

Hate the Goodell. Tries way to hard to leave his mark on the game. Quit trying to reinvent football, damn.

Well if teams attempt less FGs that is a good thing.

And narrowing the posts a bit is not going to effect decisions on 30 yard tries. Those will still be hit almost all the time. Im not talking about narrowing the space to half the size it is now. Just a few feet. I think if you did that the percentages on FGs would go back to what it was back in the 80s and 90s, when kickers actually missed every now and then.

There is a reason these kick percentage records keep getting broken year after year. Kickers are just too good now. It should be more difficult for them to hit.

But that would go against Goodell's agenda. More points! or maybe it plays right into it, with bypassing the longer fg attempts and going for it, with more chances at scoring td's.

I wouldn't mind seeing something done to increase the difficulty of these kicks.

please stop screwing with the damn game, stop threatening screwing with the damn game, stop asking every wet-nurse-nonsense-nanny about how to 'soften up' the damn game; screw with it enough... folks'll start turning off the damn game.

Doesnt have anything to do with reinventing the game. Has to do with cutting time off the game so they can expand replay and not have the games take 4+ hours

And it's still an idiotic move no matter how "automatic" he thinks an extra point may be. Playing devil's advocate here, say the Seahawks are down 26-20 with a minute or so left in the 4th quarter Super Bowl. They score a TD to tie it up at 26-26 with literally a few seconds left. Don't you think they should actually EARN that extra point and thus a championship by making the extra point??? I tell you one thing, the Broncos would go all out to try to block that extra point even if the chances are pretty slim. You don't change the integrity of the game by messing with history IMO. It may only be one point but that extra point is huge most of the times!

Why not cut out 1 or 2 of their precious tv timeouts if they want to cut down game time. Right, they won't because it's all about the money, not the actual game. They could streamline the replay system to shorten the time spent, etc. Nah **** it, let's just fundamentally change the game.

Let's get rid of the kick off while we're at it and have teams start automatically at the 20 yard line
