Merged: Sturgis may lose a part of his job/Extra points

The extra point may be close to automatic but it's nerve wracking automatic. I have to close my eyes sometimes while dreading a miss. You can feel the tension in the stands.

Field goals are extreme high percentage only because the hash marks were tightened and then the kickers improved. If the NFL used the college hash marks, field goal percentage would suffer.

Emperor is correct, it's all about length of the game. Goodell has to pretend otherwise.

Extra points are hardly automatic at lower levels. Goodell never thinks about impacting the game elsewhere. The NFL changes are often transferred to college and lower. I go to many high school games per year. Sometimes you'll see a kid who otherwise doesn't get a chance to play sent out in a lopsided game to attempt an extra point. He's thrilled when he makes it and the team and rooting section go nuts.

Now I'm rooting for a missed extra point in the Super Bowl. Hopefully a pivotal one. That would spoil Goodell's plan and wouldn't it be sweet if lousy weather conditions played a role?

goodell is doing everything in his power to destroy the legacy of the NFL. first it was the kickoff returns, players safety(more like protecting corporate investments), fining players for playing football, etc.. now this. the guy showed up at the draft with a damn spray tan. metro-sexual spray tanning corporate douche bag. bring back paul tangleaboo w/e his name was.

C'mon man. Out of everyone I would have thought Mr. LV would have this one lapped up. How many extra points are reviewed? I'd dare to say, none to one percent. That's purely a guesstimate. Though with that said, if the NFLolopy now has all TD's reviewed, why wouldn't these new options fall under the same scoring review rules. I surely understand it's also to help implement Gotohell's new replay "vision" (or cynically viewed as more tangible intervention) for the league, but it's also hard to argue that in the end it's all about the opportunity to fit more commercial time ($$$) in between the new and more frequent scoring plays. All the while "trimming" the game time on paper yet immediately disregarding it's actual time allotment.

Make no mistake, we are headed towards 4 hour game allotments to "enhance" and add a more fulfilling atmosphere to stadium goers and to continue to take advantage of the ridiculous revenue made in how he pimp's the NFL shield. Gotohell could care less how much time those who choose the home entertainment option have to sit and wait on their couches.

Just wait until new concussion research is revealed to show how the importance of periodical resting times decrease it's effects. There's not a more convenient way to give that much needed "brain rest" to players during game time than for the NFL to break away for a short time to so thoughtfully inform it's customer of the latest and greatest BS. :sethdaddy8:

If they want to move the attempt back , fine with me. Narrow the posts, fine also. But what I REALLY want them to get rid of is the pass interference BS. They should make it a 15 yarder, and if it's in the end zone only half the distance to the goal. I'm so tired of seeing the ball just chucked deep and hope some defender just touches the poor defenseless receiver and the ball is on the 1 yard line...(like Brady vs Cleveland) no guarantee that ANY catch is automatic A friend of mine suggested REDUCING the amount of points a FG was worth the farther back you were...like rewarding the defense for stopping the drive. Up to 30 yards 3pt, 31-50 yards 2pt, 51 plus 1pt. You either go for it on 4th down, or punt. It would make those games when you are down by 3 with 1:30 left and on your own 20 a LOT more exciting!

how about just leaving our beloved, historic game ALONE!!!!! :smad:

dont blame goodell. this has been floated around for many years, before goodell was the king. the owners have been the ones quacking about it, and even players because they dont believe kickers are football players [until they need those 3 points to win the game or go to the playoffs or s-bowl].

i think the kicking game is exciting [most of the time]. those nail biter "makes it we win, misses, we lose" and those times when the playoffs are on the line....... i love it!!

one guy, one kick, its ALL on the line. its just a part of the game. then what, no cheerleaders? no tackling within the red zone? no sacking the qb [were almost there on that one].

just like everything else in this country, its being torn apart, no traditions, there ALL bad, out dated and need changing. LEAVE MY GAME ALONE!!!!!

if a team wants the extra point the head coach should have to kick it. i haven't finished my coffee but i think i'm dead serious.

I doubt the player would go for this. Think aout it. Going for 2 after every single TD means potential to injury after every single TD. The NFL is supposed to be trying to protect the players from injury and now you're going to add 1000 plays where someone can get hurt? It makes no sense at all. Adding a playoff team is already a terrible idea but this one is even worse. As soon as someone gets hurt going for 2 everyone will be talking about how this rule is stupid.Just leave the game alone!!

Ozzy rules!!

Why would lower levels have to change? The PGA tour makes special designations all the time to "lengthen" the course that lesser tournaments don't follow.

He's talking about reviews in general and it sounds like they want to add more stuff to review, like hits on defenseless receivers. This review system shouldn't take nearly as long as it does anyway, I mean, we usually know if its going to be overturned or not before they even go to commercial.

Agree. Get rid of holding and PI and meld them into one 10 yard penalty that covers all fowls on receivers.

Don't agree in a catch all 10 yard penalty for PI since you could interfere on a sure TD and only lose 10 yards

I'd like to eliminate the extra point kick as it is, because missing 5 kicks out of 1261 (thats .004%) is just an irrelevant play. It has no stake in the outcome of a game, and players risk injury and it reduces the overall quality of the game. We should still have an extra point play imo, but kicking it from the 3 yard line is from the days of leather helmets.

'This measurement brought to you by Bud Light. While the officials reach for the chains, reach for a cold, refreshing Bud Light! Bud Light and the chain gang- LET'S GO!'

Wow... Honestly, I like this idea...if we could trade a couple of commercial breaks for in-game product placement and announcers reading advertisements, I'd be all for that. I watch about 1/3 as much football as I used to, mainly because the games take too damn long.
