MERGED: The best picture of Miami's Media

Possibly the most entertaining and infamous thread in Finheaven's history. They had radio shows doing segments on this thread. DolfanMike is a first ballot ticket to the Finheaven because of this gem.

In the end, most people were willing to forgive the high-five. The fact that he lied about it pissed people off....
 
What I want to know is, why is it now being discussed again? How did this surface again today?

I remember when it happened and I was definately upset about it, but it didnt surprise me. Most Herlad and Sentinal writers are very pompous and arrogant.
 
My opinion has changed since this originally came out. There was a failure of judgement on the part of some of the media members. The fact that they lied about it made it worse. However as someone that wants to hear unbiased reporting on the latest Miami Dolphins information (the kind of reporting I would want to see in the newspaper), I DONT WANT DOLPHINS HOMERS THAT CANT CONTAIN THEIR HOMERNESS COVERING IT. If it was someone that was a complete homer covering the dolphins, you would probably have only good news, and as you could tell last season, there wasn't enough good news to go around. We would wonder WTF was going on half the time. As someone that plans to go out into the media (hoping to bring integrity back to the media, most of the dolphins beat writers are okay), I can tell you that these guys are ticked off that Saban is keeping everything a secret. What are they gonna have to write about? What exactly are they getting paid for at that point?

Let me give you an idea of where some of these guys are coming from. I had the privelige of meeting Greg A. Bedard and Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post at different times during training camp. At the time I met Bedard, he was just given the job of being a second beat writer covering the Dolphins along with Joe Schad. Schad right now is writing a majority of the articles. Bedard...not so much. With less and less info being readily available to work with, what exactly is Bedard going to do? What is he gonna write about? Unless the PBP is wiping their rear with benjamins, odds are they wont really find the need to keep two staff writers, especially for a smaller circlulation newspaper. If you were in the shoes of Bedard, wouldn't you be a little annoyed? A lot of these guys have worked their away around different media markets for years (Skolnick will tell you about the multiple stops he has taken and the dues he has paid to get a job at the Sentinel) to get to one of the top 10 media markets in the country covering one of the most prestigious teams in the NFL. All that work is basically for nothing. This doesnt just apply to Bedard or the others, it applies to all of the media across the board. The industry is shrinking and its not a good time for your info sources to be cut off. I understand their frustrations. I am not condoning them ripping Miami when they dont deserve to be ripped, however if they back up their facts, don't use the argument that they are anti-Miami to rip them. They are being objective. I'd write with some fire if I knew that my job was in jeopardy. The sad thing is if this works out with Saban, you'll see more teams hiding information, resulting in the cutting back of people to cover these teams. But the rewards with this is success, and then no one will care what they will write if Saban wins. So before you rip some of these guys for their work this year, consider the circumstances. Doesnt make it right, but it provides some method to their madness. They did to find whatever way they can to pry information.

IF you truly believe in the work of Nick Saban, and he has success...the media will shut up, and you'll be happy.

This site really started to take off with this whole fiasco. DOLFANMIKE helped bring FH to the forefront. Many of you new posters could only wonder who exactly read that famous thread during the course of its run.

C'mon TerryTate. That position that you tried to make was a watered down pile of weakness. It's not befitting to you. You act as if we should praise these guys because there job is so hard and they are not homers. I think we should only praise them when they give us a good product. Still waiting...

No one can seriously make the arguement that the high five boys are only trying to be objective. Please, Don't go there and sacrifice your credibility.

The idea that a beat reporter must not want the team they are covering to succeed is hogwash. Good grief...just read this message board...Dolphins fans get critical. You can be critical, supportive and maintain a level of objectivity at the same time.

Our local media is selfish. Ethan admitted such with his insights into the life a reporter. They want a story for selfish purposes. That is not the definition of objectivity. The media is saturated with hypocrisy. Sabans secrecy is too selfish. They argue that secrecy will not make us a better team all the while they have NO internal passion to see us become a better team. In fact, objectively...I could say that many in the Miami media would LOVE for the Dolphins to fail.

Saban does well to be secretive. The media has proven that they are not trustworthy for the purpose of meeting our objective. And our beloved media still can't be objective about that...can they?

The reason it came up again is on the original post on this thread. In a nutshell - We have some newbie Dolphin fans that are making the arguement that the Miami Media is not biased. This is their eye opener...

The Media's job is to report the news...not make the news.

The Miami Media has two problems as I see it. First, they are arrogant and hope to see the Dolphins, Saban, etc fail. They hope we struggle IMO. ARMONDO in particular has had several public "scenes" where he has been spotted making anti - Fins comments.
Second, the Miami Media wants to create strife and divisions within the organization. It's not real hard to spot when you look over some of their articles.

Until that changes I hope Saban continues to limit them as much as possible.

This kind of crap has to stop. I'm a reasonable person. I don't go out looking for someone to get down on or create a problem with. However, these Miami Media goons have drawn first blood. The have set their hearts against the Miami Dolphins. They want to be a negative force that effects the fan base, team chemistry, and the FO.I see these goons as forces trying to hurt my team. If they are going to continue to act irresponsible in public and make comments that put down my team, and if they are going to write crap that is speculative to a falsehood that hurts my team or individuals, or write crap that causes division in my teams organization....THEY ARE THE ENEMY. If they are part of the problem then they need to be handled. Nick Saban is the handler. I think he's doing a great job with them and being reasonable in the process.

Thats right. I forgot about that. Ethan was the one that came to Finheaven to explain what had happened without making excuses.

Exactly. The act itself was surpassed by most fans anger by the way he handled himself after the fact. In particular, he really peeved people when he went on the air to defend himself and demonstrated an even worse attitude. The more he talked, the more people disliked his actions. He had an opportunity to make it right. Then he lied and was caught, but chose instead to snowball it and make it worse.

This situation could have happened long before it did. Armondo had it coming because he continued to make inappropriate comments and articles over a period of time.
