Merged: Tim Couch Worth a Look - Why Not?

I love the idea, get rid of the feeley/sage battle, sign Berlin to the PS, and let couch ride the pine learning the offense as either the 2nd or 3rd. then when next year rolls around we can have another QB tryout.

Ps, tim has something to offer if completely healthy.

Woudnt that confuse the QB controvery even more and be like a knife in the backs of Frerotte and Feeley? I dont like the idea really

Stick a fork in Feeley.....he is done!

I'm still with the idea that Saban is a master motivator and we'll see Feeley under center game one. Geez, at least I hope so. We have nothing to gain by playing Frerotte this year. Lets win or lose with Feeley if indeed we'll be in the market for a QB next year anyway. I think that Couch would be an OK signing as long as it is on the cheap - I can't see where he'll be especially effective. He never has.

I like the idea. i'm not saying that Couch is better than what we have. but i think it sends the message to our current QBs that they are playing like crap and if that doesn't change they WILL be gone.

my question is why not bring in tim couch i really think under the rite coaches and rite scheme this guy has alot of upside.not to mention he was a 1st rd pick and did really good in college bring him in saban i hope we sign him before someone else does let's see what he can do can't hurt it's not like we are stacked at qb........

There is not a QB out there, that does not have a chance of being a bust. The QB position is a position of potential. Couch had no chance to prove himself behind a horrible line for the Browns. He has great upside and has the POTENTAL to be the QB of the future. I got to see him live while at Kentucky VS Tenn and he was the closest thing to a can't miss QB as there was coming out of college. There have been many QBs who take a few years to blossom as NFL QBs. Steve Young looked pretty pathic while at TAmpa but when given a chance in a different system he had a HOF career. Passing on Couch when QB is, by far, our most needed position would be a mistake IMO. He would be cheap and would have a year to sit and watch with no pressure to learn behind Gus. By next years draft Saban should have a good idea if he could help in the future. He would probably not do much for us this year, but I say give him a look, what could it hurt??

imo if and when we get couch i still think if he dont pan out that we will still go with rivers or brees and it will prob be brees because look at the cap that the bolts have with rivers and he has done pretty good in camp so imo our next franchise QB will come from the chargers because we prob want pick in the 1st round until around 15th or 16th and look at the teams out 4 a qb just to name a few even if they r a backup for next season tenn green bay ect... and i know there is other teams besides the ones i mentioned so IMO bring in couch let him learn the system as the year gose on and if he can contribute than ok and if not send him and the rest (the other 3 or 4 we allready have packing) and grab the one the bolts let go because they both can start in the nfl and think about it would you let go of brees 4 nothing with the #s he put up last year? and like i said it would kill the bolts to let rivers go (salary cap)

Yep I totally agree. I still hold out hope that Brees will have another probowl year and SD will trade Rivers and we get him but I know that is unlikely. But what would it hurt to bring in a Couch with just an incentive based contract??

We'll lose with Feeley! So NO!

It definately would be no risk, all reward if he is brought in. He probably won't get anything more than the minimum, and if he doesn't make the team it's not a huge loss. Watching him in preseason last year, he just had nothing on any of his throws, the guy had an arm while at UK, but his shoulder had to be ripped apart, because last year his arm wasn't even as good as Fiedlers'. Now if he is healthy, maybe he reaches his potential, or maybe he was just a terrible pick. Atleast Tim Couch kinda had an excuse, Akili Smith was just awful, as was Cade McNown.

I say bring him in. Good teams never have enough depth or talent. If it doesn't work out then so be it.

IMO, it's not worth it...

he has done very little to impress thus far, if we were to bring him in now I dont think he would beat out Gus. It's too late in training camp. we've got a backup in AJ, and Sage is as good as a #2 as well. Brock is also learning the system.

Uhhh, you can remove Green Bay from your list of teams needing a QB next year. Remember a guy named Aaron Rodgers?? Yep-Green Bay

OK...so we win 7-9 games with Frerotte as our QB, finish in the middle of the pack, get mid round draft pick. Where's the benefit? Anyone. Please show me the benefit of having Frerotte start for us?

Uh, not having to pay a top 5 draft pick again next year

IMO its worth bringing Couch in for a workout at the very least, he has much more upside than Feeley or Frerotte and still has years ahead of him
