Merged:When and HOW did you become a FinFan?

My story would have to be one of the weirdest...

My dad is a Packer diehard, and I grew up in NE Pennsylvania so I'm a fairly unlikely Dolfan. However, when I was about 8, the NFL had a golf tournament where a few teams' players competed to see which team could win this golf challenge (I don't really remember the details). The part that I do remember was that this guy had a chance to make a putt to send it into a playoff with Joe Montana and missed it. I felt so bad for him that I decided that he was going to be my favorite player. Little did I know, the guy who missed the putt was Dan Marino. My love of the Dolphins followed suit shortly after.

My uncle introduced me to the Phins when I was 4-5 yrs old when we moved to this country. I Remember the Blackwood brothers, Jim Jensen, Offerdauhl etc... and just fell in love with the Fins immediately. (moved here from the Bahamas)

My Dad is a Dolphin fan so ever since I started watching football I have been a Dolphin fan. It helps that I love football.

I was 7 years old in 81 and I was watching NFL films of a game between the Raiders and the Dolphins. My brother and his friend were huge Raiders fans and while we watched, the Raiders did the kick off and this lil guy for Miami ran it back and that was it. I though "This will be my team"

well i was in second grade. my fav color was green, my fav number is 13 and i played QB on my flag football team. i was watchin football saw marino and thats how i became a phins fan. i think they were either playin the chiefs, bears, vikings, packers, or colts bc those are the game we get on tv.

I was 7, so it probably started with the colors and the team mascot. After that it was definately Marino that kept them my team.

The first game I remember back then was at the Bengals where the announcer was all over Clayton because he was wearing sun glasses. The announcer said he was disrespecting the game, bla bla bla. I've loved the Dolphins and hated high horse announcers ever since. And since I collected football cards at that time, my favorite was my Mark Clayton card where he was wearing shades :)

In 1998, Dan Marino co-owned a NASCAR team with Bill Elliott. Being the NASCAR fan I am, I wondered who he played for. In a couple of days the Dolphins were playing on Monday night. Since the car he owned was teal and orange and had the #13 I reconized the colours on the jersey. I knew then that Dan Marino was a Miami Dolphin.

well since i was 4 years old my dad was never a real fan of sport but i am i love the dolphins i use to cry everytime the dolphins will lose

Thats easy... I grew up on the Browns, my dads team. well, back in the day, when Ritigliano stunk up the field, I got tired of the losing. So, I looked around, saw a promising young QB by the name of Dan, and stuck with Miami ever since. I wish I was still young, so my loyalty wasn't so entrenched. I am tired of the losing, but just cant make myself jump. I get surrogate teams to route for, but none seem to interest me to make it permanent. LOL.

When I was about 10 I watched Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Now at the time, I was not a big football fan; I didnt even have a "favorite" team. I saw Marino in the movie and my interest was sparked. I found that he played for the Dolphins, so I wanted to see the "guy from the movie" play.

Since then I have been a diehard fan, and I now am 18 years old, going to college at Arkansas Tech University, and plan on being a sports writer. Maybe I can take fat Hanks job :)

And oh yeah, that "guy from the movie"....he was pretty good, too.

My dad was in Viet Nam, 1970, and I had to live with my Grandfather in Coral Gables.
He'd take me to the Orange Bowl a few times a year. When my dad got back from Nam, we all went to a game in 1972 and I've been a fan ever since.
