MERGED x 2: Cam Wake Hold-Out Thread

Can't say I couldn't see this coming. This sucks. But, truth be told, we're cap strapped, and until we are able to somehow create cap space, there is no way we can give him what he deserves. This could end up being very bad, and could result in Wake being traded.

Trade him for 2 #3's...I heard Philbin runs a defense where he doesn't need a Pro Bowl pass rusher

I don't blame him. He makes like an eighth of what Tony McDaniel is making. No one on this team has earned it more. It's extreme mismanagement that we're up against the cap when our best player is making peanuts.

Knew he had a pretty good season last year(though not as good as '10), but those numbers are staggering.

Wake reached the Pro Bowl in 2010 with 16 sacks, and last year he had an aggregate of 90 sacks, QB hits, QB pressures and holding penalties drawn, according to ProFootballFocus -- by far most in the NFL. (Chicago Bears defensive end Julius Peppers, who makes $14 million a season, was second in the NFL, with a total of 74 such plays).

Oh, and let me go ahead and give people an out: its Parcells fault that Wake is holding out.

don't think that its going to come anywhere near that.

What would a team realistically give up for a 30 year old pass rusher? Cam isn't going to make MAX money, and I find it hard to believe that he will realistically be expected that to be his value. It may be there negotiating price for now, but our biggest issue here isn't that we don't want to pay him good money, its that we don't have the money at this time to pay him. He has shown patience these past two years, and don't see him all of the sudden asking for a trade.

But if there was ever a time to give the FO a wake up call reminder that he wants a raise, its now..... months before any truly meaningful practices, OTA's, Training camps, or games start.

He will get paid, its just most likely going to be after the draft, and after we either cut some chunks of money like Mcdaniel's contract, restructure Karlos' contract, or extend Jake or Reggie.
Until then, there just isn't any way to extend Cam from his 650k salary this year because there is simply no room in the cap for it right now

If we can't take down ireland, at least let's take down Aponte. She is as complicit and culpable in this TRAINWRECK as ireland is.

You heard it here first: Wake will be trade bait to move up in the draft. The Vikes want this guy. He will be Wes Welker 2.0.

And this is a MONEY rebuild. 2 years from now there will not be a player on this team with a contract that was negotiated under the pre-lockout environment. Watch.

IMO this is what it will take to get him resigned.

It is going to take somewhere between the
5 Year 35M that Wimbley signed and the 6 year 100M that Williams signed.

I think Wake will get close to 10M a year in the open market so you are looking at a 5 Year 50M dollar deal to get him locked up IMHO

Julius Peppers got a $91 million contract from the Bears when he was turning 30. We signed Joey Porter to a $32 million contract around when he was 30. Teams were willing to trade for the Giants Osi Umenyiora during the single day that New York let Osi persue offers.

Teams will give up ALOT for pass rushers, especially those with alot less wear and tear on them than Wake.
