Cant believe hes making that amount, he needs to be paid
Wake reached the Pro Bowl in 2010 with 16 sacks, and last year he had an aggregate of 90 sacks, QB hits, QB pressures and holding penalties drawn, according to ProFootballFocus -- by far most in the NFL. (Chicago Bears defensive end Julius Peppers, who makes $14 million a season, was second in the NFL, with a total of 74 such plays).
Can't say I couldn't see this coming. This sucks. But, truth be told, we're cap strapped, and until we are able to somehow create cap space, there is no way we can give him what he deserves. This could end up being very bad, and could result in Wake being traded.
It is April, I am confident this will get resolved before training camp.
don't think that its going to come anywhere near that.
What would a team realistically give up for a 30 year old pass rusher? Cam isn't going to make MAX money, and I find it hard to believe that he will realistically be expected that to be his value. It may be there negotiating price for now, but our biggest issue here isn't that we don't want to pay him good money, its that we don't have the money at this time to pay him. He has shown patience these past two years, and don't see him all of the sudden asking for a trade.
But if there was ever a time to give the FO a wake up call reminder that he wants a raise, its now..... months before any truly meaningful practices, OTA's, Training camps, or games start.
He will get paid, its just most likely going to be after the draft, and after we either cut some chunks of money like Mcdaniel's contract, restructure Karlos' contract, or extend Jake or Reggie.
Until then, there just isn't any way to extend Cam from his 650k salary this year because there is simply no room in the cap for it right now
