Merged5x:RotatingQBs\How about playing BOTH QBs??/PFT link/Woodstrock it isn't....

As far as our QB position, Saban says he is going to go with a quarterback rotation until he feels one of them "takes the bull by the horns" and has taken control of the job.

I thought we went through this last year, and it didn't work. Saban needs to chose a QB (as tough as it may be) and let him have the reps with the first team O.

I agree, but what choice does he have? It is diff in that Saban doesnt actually have an agenda, he wants a qb to run with it. Personally I think he felt the ideal would be for Gus to come in and start and then develop AJ. AJ has looked better, but it has been against second team, so while Saban is pleased with his progress, it doesnt necessarily mean he thinks AJ is ready to do that against 1st team. I really think Saban felt that AJ needed more time to get comfortable and confident. Gus just hasnt siezed the opportunity.

A lot of college coaches think that you can rotate QB's in and out when they come into the NFL, he'll learn..

OVERBLOWN!

(On if he is weighing the quarterback situation for the present or the future) – “I don’t like using analogies when it comes to this position, but to some degree we try to be upfront and honest about how we are managing this position and how we are trying to assess this position. The one fact has remained, and there are circumstances that contribute to this, and I’ve said it before, the guy that plays second has played best. He doesn’t always play against their first defense and that has something to do with it, because the speed of the game does change, but whatever the circumstance is that we need to continue to develop both of these guys to get both of these guys to play as well as they can play, I think will contribute long-term to giving us the best opportunity to take advantage of whatever situation we face. I don’t think you have to look at this like it’s an all-or-nothing. It’s not an all-or-nothing situation, I don’t think. Until somebody makes it an all-or-nothing situation, it’s not, so the base philosophy that we had in the beginning about both guys continuing to develop being important long-term in the season is probably still the standard that we are looking at, until somebody does the proverbial take the bull by the horns and (gets it done). We’re working as best as we can as an offensive staff and as a team of people here to try and get either or both guys to be able to get to that position. Both guys have shown promise and played well at times and I’m sure both guys would say to you that there were things that they wish they had done a little better. Hopefully, over time we will just continue to build on that consistency and get the kind of play at that position that we need to have success and play winning football on offense. ”

(On if he sees the possibility of seeing both quarterbacks play in the same game) – “I don’t want to speculate on that, but if that’s what it takes for us to have the best opportunity to win – if that’s the decision that we feel gives us the best opportunity to be successful and have a chance to play winning football on offense that’s not something that we wouldn’t consider doing.”

we all know what conventional wisdom dictates. And last year we had a better chance of selling tickets to watch a circus than we did of calling the dolphins a football team. Exhibit A should tell us all we need to know about last year... Wanny. Exhibit B should tell us to be patient this year ... Saban. :D

It's worked before and that is a fact not an opinion.

Yes, I want Feeley given all the time with the first teamers but, Saban and Linehan are dead set against it so, my only hope is that they split time until AJ forces his way into the starting position permanently.

agree to disagree....

I have a tough time believing two QBs playing in the same game? Did Saban interchange QBs many times in college?

Yeah, I caught that quote. I hope Saban doesn't go with this. if he does split their time it should be 8 games/8 games. Flip flopping qb's in a game NEVER works at this level....

They do it sometimes in the CFL I think, but that is not nearly as fast as the NFL.

Maybe Saban is playing mind games to get a guy to step up somehow? Or maybe there just isn't a clear cut winner, although Feeley appears to be growing in the right direction and Gus is treading water at best. Hopefully Saban has a new wrinkle to this QB rotating thing that will rebvolutionalize it. On the other hand, he could be on the verge of making his first really bad decision at the pro head coaching level. I hope not. I still think he's our coach of the future, who will somehow restore winning.

Hopefully it's not a rotation within a game, but week to week re-evaluating. That's a better bet.

I don't think rotating QB's every series works, and if he does indeed to try and make it work, we don't know how he's going to work the rotation. Maybe he works Feeley in slowly, giving him a couple series a game, untill he has a full grasp of the offensive system, the Titans did that with McNair, but he was much younger. He could just go with the hot hand, if a guy starts a game off slowly, and the offense isn't moving, he switches to give the team a "spark." I don't think it works for an extended period of time, but it could work for a few games. It may also lead to other problems such as more dropped passes, more false starts, and bad timing with recievers. Saban has alot more knowledge of the Phins than I do, and if he thinks that's what is best for the team, than I have to think it's what is best for the team.

I thought Gus did take the bull by the horns on the first drive. Feeley took the bull by the horns with a few minutes left in the fourth Q with 3rd stringers in. Cmon, man! be real!

Historically, that formula leads to failure. If he does that then he is essentially throwing away any hopes for being a surprise team this season, and just putting other pieces together for next season.

You know the saying. When you've got 2 QB's, you don't have one.
