Miami Dolphins Won't Sign Grimes Long-Term...why ???

if grimes will come $6 mil per over 3 years and say just over half that guaranteed...there's nothing else to discuss...it's a no brainer...there's not even any real cap implications to worry about...

seems cheap to me...i think if that was gonna do it it would be done by now

Grimes looks like a guy that could be a solid nickel CB late in his career. Smart, athletic and a team player.

Hickey and Joe will be run out of town if they lose Grimes.

The Dolphins have the tag as leverage. They can tag him and then work out a longer term deal on better terms than just offering him a pile of cash up front or letting him play us against the market.

I was about to fly to Miami right how and rip the first person I saw in the FO to shreds, and then I saw it was BR so I'm ok now.

So....

OP title is WAAAAAAAAAAY mis-leading. Article THINKS Dolphins don't want to sign Grimes long term.

Clearly Grimes is a top target and should be locked up on a 2-3 year deal around $5/year.

Then again....it is a BR article. :ponder:

Beat me by a second :hclap:

9. Long-term deals can be negotiated, through July 15.

Previously, the window for a team signing its franchise player to a long-term deal closed not long after the free-agency period started and then opened again on July 15. Now, the window remains open until July 15.

After July 15, the franchise player can sign only a one-year deal with his current team. It can be for more than the franchise tender, and it can include other terms, like playing-time or performance triggers that would prevent the tag from being used again.

But the duration can be no more than one year.

I think Grimes wants a 4th year garaunteed

well if that's the case that should be a sticking point cause in order to get that it means the guaranteed money he gets in the deal goes up as well...he won't get a 4 year all guaranteed contract but every year we add to it we also add more guaranteed money and more risk...

4 year deal is dicey...he's not a spring chicken and he's physically not a big guy...guess it would depend how it was layed out...i'd much rather go 3 years with an out after 2 if need be

Grimes got $5.5M last year on a 1 year deal to prove he was over the injury and was an elite CB. He did that, and there is no way in hell that he is gonna re-sign for close to that on his last shot at big money from the NFL. IF we got him for $8-9M on a 3 year deal, it would be cheap.

The franchise tag for over $11m is debatable. Do we believe we can go anywhere with him this year or, can we be close to the same with a replacement? I'm on the fence.

Try 8-10 million for a top 10 corner. After applying an age discount, 7-9 million.

I know our defense would have REALLY sucked without him taking away one side! I think you have to pay the man!
