Mike Wallace: I may get back there for kickoff returns

I think Ginn had something like 5 TDs last year and was returning kicks...sad but I would take that kind of production.

i don't think landrys winning any kick off return job he's not explosive enough...he could win the punt return gig but my moneys on thigpen once again winning both return jobs and making the 53...

mike wallace if this offense is what i think it is is too valuable to lose on returns...and god knows charles clay wants his presence on the field to open up things for him down the seam etc

will be interesting to see the first quarter of the season vs say the first half if they really trust the protection...in other words is wallace gonna run stop routes every time he is given a cushion if it's not pa cause the oc doesnt trust the protection and we can't afford to wait for wallace to invade and blow by bailing or off coverage...

last year i saw an awful lot of stop routes etc on off coverage where with the steelers they didnt care they still worked the field vertical with wallace and let the routes develop...true sign they trusted the protection

It wasnt the protection it was big Ben being able to buy time with his size and his eyes

there was some of that for sure...but they also then trusted the protection WAY more than we did last year...only time we even tried to work vertical was off pa...that should tell you something

admittedly though bens ability to let things develop and move around in the pocket etc while they do made a big difference...but ben wasn't doing that at that level in his 2nd year in the league either...and it's pretty sad that people don't understand that around here when it comes to our qb but i digress...they think the guy should handle the pocket like a maestro out of the womb

Normally the qb can at least pinpoint the problem areas on his own o line and expect pressure from a side.. Last year he got hit from everywhere.

IMO his skill set would translate perfectly to kick returning, but that would be silly to put a highly paid starter at regular KR duty.

Many on here seem to have dismissed Wallace as a threat because last year was not as good as hoped and expected. I am looking forward to seeing him improve his game this year. (I think he's a likely value fantasy draft pick). However, I would not mess around with him on kick returns. Actually, I expect Damian Williams from Tennessee (ex USC) to seriously challenge Thigpen for the PR/KR duties.

I don't see Wallace returning punts, but I'll take him as a receiver. And for the record Wallace's 73 receptions last year were a career high.

I see it now, he catches a huge bomb for a td, giving us all hope for the season. Next kickoff, breaks a leg or tears something. It would be just our luck

I've seen a lot of his Steeler games and he's not a Desean Jackson type of player. Not knocking him or saying he's not a good player, he just doesn't make people miss like Jackson or Barry Sanders type of players do.

Desean Jackson returned punts. Those are more predicated on agility and elusiveness. Wallace is talking about kicks. Returning kickoffs is more about having vision to find a crease along with the speed to greatly minimize the amount of successful angles the other team can take.

Unfortunately, I can hear the Andrew Luck crowd say, "Why Not?"

Wanting to return kicks and doing it are different. I hope the coaching staff gives him looks in training camp and preseason games to see if its a valid option. Also frees up a roster spot because if thigpen isnt returning kicks he wont be sticking around.

Not to mention Russell Wilson. Should be noted that both Wilson and Luck also played behind O-lines that struggled to protect the QB. Deep ball accuracy and pocket presence are the major factors currently separating Luck and Wilson from Tannehill. Pocket presence can be improved with experience, but there aren't many examples (that I can come up with anyway) where guys go from bad to good. Tannehill has been underwhelming at best. I hope Sherman deserves a lot of the blame. We'll see soon enough.

Jarvis Landry should help by providing a quick win option from the slot. If Lazor's offense looks anything like the Eagles offense last season, the quick passing game should limit this issue to some degree.
