She said she poled some players and to a man the players respect and want Philbin back. She said some players don't think Tannehill can win in this league, while others still have faith in him.
I agree with her, the team has enough talent to be successful. Just recover the fumble in the Green Bay game, which was just total luck of the draw, and we're 8-6. If the ball is a smidgen better thrown, or if Clay makes a better effort in the Detroit game maybe we're 9-5. Tannehill engineers a comeback drive instead of throwing a pick against Denver and maybe we're 10-4.
In some ways we seemed really really close to breaking out from mediocrity. In other ways it seems like we're a universe away. The team does seem to quit when we get down at times. I think part of that is on Philbin, but a big part is on Tannehill. Brady, Luck, Wilson, Rodgers and all of the elites can bring you back from being down even 20+ points. I think if you have that, and you believe in that, you're going to keep fighting. When you don't have that you're going to be left with a "here we go again" feeling. Its an intangible that Tannehill doesn't have. What was the biggest deficit he's brought us back from? More than 10 even?
Anyway, it doesn't matter what the players want. Tannehill and Philbin clearly can't work together, and Tannehill isn't going anywhere as we've put all of our eggs into his basket, so we only have one real option.
