I decided to compile a list of wins by passer rating to see how Philbin stacks up against other coaches in this regard. I tried to include a hodgepodge of good QBs with what I consider to be bad coaches vs the best coaches.
A few things of note: I've made this comparison before but I think Jim Harbaugh is a modern day Shula so his numbers aren't that surprising to me. Jerry Jones is retarded if he doesn't fire Garrett, I've said he might be worse than Sparano and the numbers seem to indicate that. I have always felt that Philbin is at worst comparible to Marvin Lewis, in that if you give him 10 years to implement his sytem he will have us competitive for at least a spell. Tannehill and Dalton are two peas in a pod as well in my opinion but Dalton has way more games of 100+ passer rating, not sure what to make of that.
All good coaches should win when their QB has a good game, what sticks out to me is most coaches win at close to 100% when their QB has a rating of 100+ but the bad coaches don't have a good record when their QBs rating is in the 90s. One important question is how much impact can a coach have on getting his QBs rating in the 100s more consistently? It seems clear Harbaugh is able to but like I said, he might be the best coach in the league and maybe one of the best of all time. What about personnel, that should definitely have an impact as well. Is that why Dalton has so many more games with a passer rating in the 100s?
