Mort and Adam: Philbin Wanted to Cut Incognito

They broke some franchise records for worst CB play last season so that isn't saying much. Would still rather have Davis over Carroll.

Davis has 1 INT and 38 tackles. Carroll has 2 INTs 31 tackles and a sack. I feel we absolutely need an upgrade over Carroll but Vontae wouldnt hold the bill.

Why does Rex get to use the bad GM excuse but not Philbin? I'm pretty sure you would agree we would be a better team with Brandon Albert at LT, hell even if we would have just signed McKinnie in the offseason we probably would have won at least one extra game.

Plus Rex's problems at QB were partially his own doing, what kind of fool puts his starting QB back in the game for the 4th quarter to play against the scrubs trying to make a name for themselves?

My point is he does not have a QB. I would like to see him coach with a credible QB...just not in our division.

I think that Joe's GM has not screwed as much as you say. I think Joe is underachieving with the talent he has.

I DO agree that a trade for Braden Albert should have been made or seeking out a trade with Jacksonville for Eugene Monroe. With that said, credit should go to the GM for getting McKinnie in a trade.

With that said, Ireland is done. Joe will survive and our debate this offseason will be who the GM should be. I just am totally against a forced marriage. IF Joe is to return, let him pick HIS GM, give him personnel control or promote Brian Gaine. Gaine is interesting to me. There is professional connection of Kirk Ferentz between Gaine and Joe.

I do not want what the Jets and Panthers are doing now. It does not work.

This. It will be tricky if Philbin stays and Ireland goes. At that point promoting Gaine and then allowing him to work with Philbin together on the talent side is important. Keep Aponte to run the business side of the cap.

ITS AMAZING what philbin has done despite irelands noodling, medeling and bad drafting and f/a blunders and asenine statements.

no coach could be a winner and deal with what ireland puts on the table year after year.

and this story i am sure is true because we saw right off the bat how philbin feels about malcontents and screw offs and bad seeds, we saw him make quick work out of homey the clown on HARD KNOCKS and then the jettison of that repulsive, sorry azz players council jake and the boys tried to lay on him after cutting HTC [also known as chad johnson]. he ran them at seasons end.

i see hundreds of guys [even ones calling for philbins head] who are always calling for no divas this, and no knucklheads that and no gangstas and get rid of those who dont buy in like billichek does, and then they get all huffy and want philbin gone when he does get rid of them!!

this team is a TOP TO BOTTOM MESS. we FINALLY have a killer wr core and if we can just get tanny to learn how to hit the big play, we have an offense, finally. and i know the usual suspects are chomping to come back with "well, this is ireland, he brought them here, see, he is the real deal"..... . well, if it wasnt for ireland ignoring our offense and bringing in lack luster players every year, we wouldnt have had to spend the zillions on the players we did. and you can bet ROSS told him, get the firepower in here or else because i am sure he felt if ireland was once again left to his own vices, he would have blown it again.

i think ireland tried to muscle and bully ireland with an I'M THE GM, YOUR THE LITTLE COACH UNDER ME" tactic. an "i pick 'em, you just play em" mentality and it has alienated many people caused them to choose corners in the front office. philbin has forgotten more about football than water boy ireland will EVER know!!! and i think that intimidates him.

its LONG past him being run off. and even though i am STAUNCHLY team incognito in this martin bilking the nfl nightmare, philbin was right to want to cut him and we can see we are just fine on the o-line without him. ireland just can not get out of his own way.

all we need to do is keep philbin and staff in place and HIRE SOMEONE WHO KNOWS PERSONELL AND HOW TO GET IT!! this i whats been the achillies heal of the dolphins for 15 years now. ross needs to get the nfl to direct him to the right guy and he needs to GO AWAY and write checks and keep out of the football stuff.

i am completely happy with philbin. no coach is perfect but no coach can succeed with someone like ireland at the helm. phibin, [and the dolphins] will FLOURISH once ireland is GONE!!

Sorry Hayden, but under NO circumstance do I want Philbin picking the GM or having "control" I just want him coaching the football team and nothing else. A winning organization has a GM who picks the talent with of course getting his coaches opinions, and a coach who coaches

If that is the case you fire the staff as well and start anew.

I would guess any new GM would give Philbin a year to show them something, and if not, I'm fine with blowing it up as long as the new GM has a plan and stands by his convictions

There is another PFF stat in that thread that has Grimes as the 6th best overall corner and Davis as the 7th. Anyway, I don't rely on stats when judging a CBs ability, there are too many variables, you could have a guy be the best CB in the league and have 0 INTs just because QBs never throw it his way for example. If you watch the way Davis plays and the way he moves and is able to accelerate and come away thinking he's a bad player then we'll just have to agree to disagree. Besides, I'm not saying Davis is all pro anyway, for the money we were paying him he was good enough to allow us to fix other holes instead of making a new one.

...after the golf incident. However, because he was a so new to the job he was over ruled. Schefter connected Ross' overwhelming support of Philbin in his presser to Joe wanting to cut Incognito loose. Fill in the blank....Ireland wanted to keep Incognito.

IMO IF What they say is True , then Philbin and Ireland would have gotten rid of Cog after what happen with Martin , IMHO Richie Will be back with Miami Next Year with a new contract Philbin knows ALONG with Ireland that Cog is a decent Football Player , and they would be stupid to release him just for the yeats or the pukrids to pick him up in a heart beat.. BUT THEY CAN HAVE Martin for what we have in him and thats a 2nd rd pick and if not ,, and Martin dosent want to play for Miami again , then he can do like Detroit did to Barry Sanders and thats make him retire as a football player .because theres noway i would just release Martin and lose a 2nd rd pick for him to go to the Team he wants...

That's a pretty good point actually. Imagine Philbin did just that...

I am not the greatest fan of Joe Philbin but if Philbin gets criticized for how the season has been so far, Rex Ryan should be as well.

Why would a worthwhile GM that has waited his entire career want to inherit his coach? If you keep Philbin, either you have let Joe find his own GM or find a guy that has professional connection to him.

And hayden, you lost your marbles with the Rex Ryan is a good HC crap. You say Joe Philbin sucks.

Joe Philbin is 4-1 vs. REx and about to be 5-1. The one loss was in overtime thanks to our kicker who resides in Buffalo now.

How is he 4-1 vs Rex when they have faced each other 3 times? Please do not tell me about my "marbles" when you cannot count to 3.

Agree on playing Sanchez in the pregame. Awful coaching. However, let's not make Sanchez out to be Andrew Luck.

Rex is great football find. Way too bombastic. However, has had two playoff trips and two runs deep into January. I think most here would trade for that.

Rex will be fired at the end of the year FWIW, IMO.

A couple things to note from reading this thread.

1)Just because Brian Gaine is under Ireland doesn't mean he wouldn't be a GM. Just look at Detroit, Martin Mayhew was Matt MIllen's right hand man. Millen was horrible but Mayhem has been a decent GM. Sure he has a team filled with knuckleheads, but it's a talented team. Not endorsing Gaine, but we don't have to blame him for Ireland's failures (though admittedly, the same has been said about Ireland with Parcells)

2)Rex is a good defensive coach and he's a guy whose players love him. So was Tony Sparano. Rex doesn't have a QB... okay. Well Rex is also the guy whose so confident in his D that he and the GM of the Jets have continuously ignored the offensive side of the ball for a few years now. Gotta go both ways.

3) Some people really love to bash Joe Philbin. He deserves some criticisms for this year for sure, but some of you are just being idiotic in your criticisms. He's shown some good things and he's shown some bad things.
