Mort said nfl wants to restore once proud franchise, says ireland is gone

What makes you think the NFL is better at building football teams than anybody else? What if we end up going to the playoffs and actually win a playoff game or 2? Then what, fire everyone and hope we replace our second year head coach who actually brought us to the playoffs...

No, it is absolutely true that the NFL has a program in place to headhunt for front offices. I first heard about this years ago, in connection with the Oakland Raiders, I think.

The NFL absolutely 100% has a system in place that allows a team owner to say "Hey, please help me fill my front office with people who aren't Jeff Ireland" and the league will come in and do just that. This is absolutely a real thing. I believe it was put in place primarily for expansion teams.

There are high profile search firms like Korn Ferry's Sports division who have large databases, ongoing personal relationships and who keep in touch with those attractive candidates for whatever position - especially those who may feel they're "landlocked" below a pretty secure GM, who'd be receptive to a change involving increased responsibilities and visibility. Personally, i wouldn't trust the league for anything, and the history of staffing for Oakland's front office should be argument enough for that.

Perhaps, but at the same time, I think it is clear that Steve Ross just doesn't understand how to build a functional NFL front office. I don't think Ross is a bad owner, but I also don't think he's the right guy to rebuild this thing on his own.

I expect an entirely new regime next year, thank the lord. But I am confused about something, the LEAGUE wants this done? On what authority can the league dictated organizational moves like this?

I agree, I see a new GM and head coach next year.

I am also confused on this head hunting thing people are talking about. I can't believe the NFL has the power to say "fire this person" or "hire this person". I have to think that they can make recommendations, but don't make decisions for the team.

This will set back this team three years, expect free agents like Grimes to leave, players like Wake to decline under a new system, and Tannehill to likely regress trying to learn a while new system. Fantastic. Three more years of
Losing.

Do you really think it would be smart to go against the NFLs wishes?

What ever it take for Miami to be the power house it was ling ago. I am not surprised. JI has been ho-hum.
I will be a really happy fan when we get this all fixed. The right way.

I agree. Although they are intertwined, I look at the Martin/Incognito issue as being separate from the on-the-field production. As a fan, I'm more emotionally vested in seeing them win games than following a soap opera in the locker room. Since the drama is not as big a deal as say Hernandez or Ray Lewis, I consider it to be a minor obstacle.

However, the fact that this team has had a losing record for so long suggests that changes are needed. Parcells was a cancer, and everyone associated with him should have been fired when he quit. Philbin and Sherman came in talking a good game, but really haven't done anything yet to make this a winning franchise. I do understand that a new staff needs time, but when your offense consistently goes from somewhat efficient (after the usual slow start) in the first half to practically disappearing in the second half there's a problem. When your defense consistently allows teams to come from behind in the second half, there's a problem. This staff has been out-coached in probably every game, and the only reason they do have 4 wins is because of a few big plays here and there, and not because the team is actually good. The Buffalo game (and maybe Baltimore) should have been a win, and the NE loss after a good first half proved that this staff doesn't know what they're doing. The staff's failure to do anything about the o-line until after the meeting with the owner is the last straw, IMO. Fire them all and start over... at least there is some talent on the team for the next staff.

I don't know if the NFL is set up like major league baseball, but in ML when the LA Dodgers owner was close to bankruptcy due to his divorce lawsuit the league stepped in and took over the Dodgers until they were able to find a new ownership group for the club.

One day we as fans may look at Martin as a hero...the man child that finally forced Ross to make some changes that actually bring results. He has been under Ireland's spell.
Although these reports are just speculation be the media, it is a logical progression. The NFL as a whole is now under scrutiny because of this incident.
Weak men in position of power...Ross, Ireland, etc put all the pieces together for something like this to happen.
The NFL will apply some conductant to the head of this franchise and apply some voltage. Eventually Randle McMurphy(Ross) will be come compliant.

If Ross can appease the NFL by restructuring the organization and avoid losing draft picks or having sanctions, then I am all for it.

This team is going no where with Ireland at the helm. That much is a bonfide fact. Philbin is collateral damage.
The team has some talent in some areas. This a mediocre squad, pretty much average if you ask me. We can be a wildcard team with good coaching by a new staff. All of this sky is falling because of a new staff is over dramatic.
With all that has happened and said, this staff is tarnished. Time to move on. Who knows. Maybe the next staff will make you quickly forget about this one.

People are misrepresenting what I am saying....ROSS can ask the NFL after ROSS cleans house to help him find a FO structure going forward. I never said the NFL can fire people within the Fins. The NFL could fine or suspend people within in team.

No people read what they wanted to hear. Not your fault.

I agree. The fans and the health of the franchise going forward should be his first priority. Relationships with Ireland, etc are secondary.
This is a business. The bottom line is all that matters.
