Mort said nfl wants to restore once proud franchise, says ireland is gone

I really don't see how any of them get fired if miami goes on a run and keeps winning. The nfl has no control over who miami hires.

Wow....a lot of spin speculation on the site today.

the Dolphins suspension of Icognito after hearing the racial comment on the voicemail was the right thing to do. He will/should stay suspended until an investigation is completed. Philbin has said he didn't or doesn't know anything about harassment and to my knowledge there is no evidence to prove anything to the contrary.

Ireland (yes, he is a buffoon), has been vilified ever since the Dez Bryant interview. If you don't know the story, you should read up on it.....the Ireland question with Dez Bryant is only ever presented without the full text of the conversation.....so I don't have a problem with that. However, I have other issues with Ireland regarding player selection and lack of depth....so I'm not going to spend any time defending him, however, the comment about Martin slugging Incognito came on October 28th, which is the day that Martin had already left the team. I don't know what the conversation was about, or what was said....but it was before the voicemail came out so I'm going to leave the door open that Ireland didn't know the full scope of the issue.

the past transgressions of Richie Incognito....while interesting and certainly help draw a picture of him as a person.....don't have a lot to do with this current issue. Whatever happened at the golf tournament last year, was settled and the league was notified of what happened and what the end result was. Based on that, I have to assume the league agrees with how the Dolphins handled it.

The big wild card here is Mr. Ross. If the story on PFT is correct, he is livid and you have to wonder who he will find responsible for shedding this negative light on both himself and the Dolphins organization. The NFL investigation report will shed a lot of light on this, but Ross seems to hang on to people a bit longer than most, so it wouldn't surprise me if Philbin survived this.

Under no circumstances, do I see the NFL taking any punitive action against the Phins. Unless something else comes out, the Phins have done the right thing in suspending Incognito when they were made aware of the accusations against him.....and he remains suspended pending an investigation. That seems pretty reasonable to me.

I feel bad for Joe....

This could work out brilliantly for Philbin, especially if he leads us to 9-7 or 10-6. He'll get re-hired right away with a proper organizational structure in place, he gets the easy way out on distancing himself from his buddy Sherman and he's probably learned a lot of valuable lessons in his 2 year stint as our head coach.

Said people within the organization already fear they lost their jobs and ireland is without a doubt gonna be gone. Says the league wants to restore a once proud franchise & completely implement a whole new organizational structure in miami. Philbin is probably gone too

Have them check the last few weeks of game tape and change some of the ****ed up calls by the officials.

The league is full of itself - This is their mess - they league condoned hazing and bullying forever.

Its like someone in the NHL got in a fist fight on the ice and and filed a complaint by a punch - and now all of sudden the NHL becomes concerned about fighting on the ice. That's beyond stupid. The analogy works perfectly - the NFL is an insiders club - a fraternity and the ring masters are the front offices of the NFL.

Had to fix that, someone dying is far to excessive and would warrent changing.

On the surface, this organization embraces Marino, Shula and the 1972 Dolphins. But I'll be completely honest, when I took my first trip to Sun Life for the Baltimore game, I didn't get that warm fuzzy feeling that we have hallowed halls that celebrate greatness of players and teams of days gone by. It's a cold place. There is an extreme disconnect. It's not like you walk into the stadium and feel you are privileged to be walking on sacred ground. It's more like your walking into an amusement park with one ride and a lot of concession stands.

Well said. Welcome to my dismay of the past quarter century. Every decision has been a disaster, from the design and location of the stadium to moving team headquarters away from Miami. We've had a procession of people in high places who simply don't know what they are doing.

When Mike Dee departed, I responded jubilantly in the corresponding thread. One down. He was the singular most disconnected member of this franchise in the 4+ decades I've followed the team. Last night I sat through the Canes defeat in the rain. As bad as that was -- even though I had a nice bet on Virginia Tech +7 -- the guy seated next to me during the first half found reason to bash the Dolphins for Gator Day. I don't think the fans here realize the lasting impact of that inconceivable decision. I tried to talk to the guy about the Martin/Incognito situation and he shoved it aside, saying he no longer follows the Dolphins or cares about them due to Gator Day.

Ireland obviously needs to go. I had hopes for Philbin but he's clearly overmatched. A strong voice would have been confident enough to announce the Incognito golf incident to the community as soon as it happened, regardless of the settlement or any determination by the organization to follow the typical pattern and cover it up. It's disgraceful that the franchise said nothing about that incident, and almost as bad that the local media didn't discover it. Settlements generally occur after the gist of the story is public information. Everyone has the ability to make judgments, which in this case would include any person or organization who had an inclination to participate in a Dolphins public event. If nothing else, they could request that Incognito not attend, or anyone else they had a concern about. That shouldn't be off limits. Instead, the Dolphing not only pretended nothing happened, they somehow allowed Incognito to be appointed to respected and influential positions within the team. It sounds like a parody but this regime actually allowed it to happen. A clean sweep wouldn't bother me at all.

BTW, Green Bay does it very well. I don't know if you've ever visited their museum and stadium. Obviously it's a different setting, in a small town. But the basic difference is class and care.

Amen to all of this.

I feel like this franchise has been in decline since Robbie's dysfunctional family couldn't sort things out and Huizenga became majority owner. He clearly cared about the Dolphins more than his other teams, at least in terms of an investment if not the product itself. However, his prescription to fix things was always wrong. He wanted to bring in a Daddy figure who would fix everything. First JJ, then Saban, then Parcells. There were big staff turnovers with each of those guys, and the franchise lost its identity. It got even worse with Parcells since he wasn't the official GM, which created confusion as to who was really doing what. Then you had Ross buying the team and flying out with a guy who wasn't the GM to convince Harbaugh to take a job that wasn't open.

At this point, the Dolphins are wannabes. They are the team chasing fads two years after their peak. New England and Pittsburgh win Super Bowls running a 3-4? Let's get a coach that runs the 3-4 and switch to that, even though our best defensive players are clearly more suited to a 4-3, and even though that 4-3 defense gave Tom Brady fits. Tim Tebow is coming to town? Let's have a day celebrating the Gators, even though it's glorifying a guy on the opposing team, in a stadium that the rival Hurricanes call home. Mike Wallace is available? Hey, he's fast! Let's sign him to a big contract, even though he held out last year and then stunk up the joint because he played for an OC that wanted him to run west coast offense routes similar to what Philbin and Sherman run. Anything to get a sniff of glory.

It takes time to build a winning culture and identity. There are no quick fixes. You're going to have ups and downs on the way there. It starts with Ross getting involved and making some decisions about what is and is not acceptable for Miami Dolphins football. It starts with an owner that hires talented guys he thinks are the right fit, stepping back and giving them his support as long as they behave according to that code, and intervening only when there is a major crisis.

I really wanted these guys fired based on the results on the field, as that alone is enough of an indictment, IMO.
I've said for months that Philbin was a cipher, an empty suit. There's no 'there' there.

The fact that Philbin brought in a blowhard dinosaur who failed in GB as his OC (and had more of an authoritative voice from the get-go than Philbin) was telling too. Philbin just seems along for the ride and out of his depth. The dude can't even nut up and throw challenge flags at opportune times.
To quote a comedy record hit from the 80s, Philbin is just "nothing but a pencil-neck geek".

Bye Joe. Time for a coach with confidence, presence and earned authority.

I also read this as:

Goodell enjoys vacationing/Super Bowls in Florida and needs a way to extort Ross for Joe Robbie stadium upgrades.

So, you'd prefer the Jerry Jones approach?

No. What from my post said that? I believe there should be a president of the organization that coordinates both the football and business side.
