The staff are morons for "ruining" Jordan (even though we've yet to see how that move will pan out)? No credit given for how they handled Vernon?

OV was DE, and is a DE who has developed. Some of the changes that coaches made have not worked very well in Ellerbe, Wheeler, change in scheme for Jones, OL experiments, and looks like Jordan. To be fair, Odrick to DT and Gibson to the slot worked out well.

So you're blaming Williams, Blount, and Nicks for TB sucking - rather than Josh Freeman and clown HC?

No. I'm blaming the poor personnel department for making a poor call with the coach, problem child players, and poor on field play.

I've never been a Freeman fan as he has never been a good passer. But the influence of bad character guys like Williams and Blount exacerbated a bad situation. All of those guys were examples of a personnel department that consistently made bad decisions. You are just proving my point. Thanks.

i'd be more interested in those numbers from pff if they were playing against guys who play on sunday when they got them...it's a whole different ball game playing vs the 2's and playing vs the 1's...

that said i'd like to see mccain and tripp this week get some run with the 1's in the game...but i'm not holding my breath it will happen

Same here, the play vs 2's and 3's is nice but, really doesn't say a whole lot other than potential.

FWIW, Trusnick played 185 snaps last year, was average in coverage and pass rush but, had a good grade on the run. He was 3rd on the team behind Starks and Misi in his limited play. He was average in the middle and weak side but good at Sam when he replaced Misi.

you could get by with him as a 2 down strong...trusnick that is...but that's about as far as i'd take it...and i'd like to bet on the youth and upside in the depth...trusnick loses contain also and is limited athletically

i'd rather take lumps with the kids than a limited maxed out veteran who teams would scheme to attack in space

Agreed. We signed him for around $1M a year to be the captain on special teams and a back up. However, he was horrible on special teams last year and this preseason. This is the last year of his deal, and could easily see him not on the roster. There's a bit of risk in going with a rookie backup's but, they will give us more on special teams, and we do have some flexibility with Misi, Ellerbe, and Jenkins.

I love when these UDFAs make the team and have huge impact! I hate how top drafted rookies are automatically given the reigns or its assumed they will be the starter...Make Jordan earn his role, and if Fede is out playing him bench his @ss. Same for McCain, if hes out playing ellerbe or wheeler then start him!!

I remember a lot of debate as to where Vernon fit best and I'm pretty sure he bulked up a lot during the offseason between his first and second year. I think good players will look good and bad players will look bad regardless of scheme or where the coaches put them. Sometimes first round picks are busts, even the third overall pick. There is a reason o-linemen are considered to be "safe" picks and everybody else is high risk/high reward. Having said that its way too early to write Jordan off or to say the coaches ruined him, maybe he'll play great when he returns.

OV was 261 at the combine, and is now 268. I think the debate was forum only.

As is the debate where Dion Jordan should play in Miami...always was going to be a DE in a 4-3....I don't think a coach has ever "waffled" on that stance

I gotta say all these rookies playing so well has me dumbfounded. How long has it been since we've had a group of rookies this impressive? What if Tripp and fede also work out well for us? We could really have an elite defense on our hands

Vernon is bigger boned. :)

I criticize the handling because I think Jordan's best usage is as a wildcard player harassing the LOS and covering TEs. I don't think the phrase "with his hand in the dirt" should be uttered with Jordan. He's a unique talent. I just think we've tried to put him into a square hole. Yes, he is responsible for his own performance, as well. But bulking up to stop the run is on the coaches.

bingo

There is definetley something special brewing about McCain. The first time I saw him play in pre-season left me wondering "who was that?" He had my attention on a few plays. He was flying all over the field and making some solid plays. Lets hope it continues to translate into the season.

SB, when you look at Trusnick's numbers it's worth noting that those often get skewed with very small sample sizes. Kinda like how Miller's run numbers looked good when he was a sub, but have faded once he was named a starter. A lot of his numbers were a reflection of the defense not keying on him.

Likewise, Trusnick is a stiff mechanical run stuffer. If he started, opposing offenses would gameplan to get him in space and take advantage of his deficiencies. But when he plays so few snaps and almost always in run situations, it's not worth the offenses time to gameplan against him and his few snaps.
