NBA FINALS THREAD: Miami Heat vs. Dallas Mavericks

well I wasn't really talking about just scoring...but overall play. And no one can deny Duncan and Nash are superstars. But I would take the guys you mentioned over these 2 anyday...but never the less, they are superstars.

I agree, but as for Tim Duncan, like Shaq, I don't think Dallas has an answer for a superstar big man. Diop/Dampier is what they are, and that's 12 fouls per game.

I don't think they did a bad job on Nash though, as he's not an elite scorer. Wade is someone who can penetrate better than anyone in the league, and he can hit that jumper as well. Dallas has their hands full with Shaq/Wade more than Miami's got there's full with Dirk. This series is gonna come down to the role players.

This is the first series that the Mavs will face a Superstar talent like Dwyane Wade.

Josh Howard is no where near as good as Rip defensively. The Mavericks defense has been overrated the entire playoffs and regular season; the Spurs and Suns exposed their defense.

You're going to tell me that Josh and the Mavs will do a better job guarding Wade? You obviously haven't watched enough of Dwyane to beleive what he is capable of doing.

Defensively, the Pistons did as much as they could to guard Wade, and he just kept making every tough shot. This playoff series has made him a great arsenal shooter. 63% shooting against the Pistons throughout the series? Not even Lebron, (and some beleive he's better than Wade) could do that. And Lebron was saying that the Pistons shrunk the court with their defense; Wade was able to get anywhere he wanted anytime.

Also, the Mavs has been weak defending on the post. Boris Diaw and Tim Duncan both had their way against the Mavs. Currently, Shaq is playing with a great deal of energy that he hasn't shown in years.

Mavs will lose.

The Mavs have faced plenty of All-Star talent such as Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, Nash and Marion. They defeated the defending champions with a trio better than any trio Miami has.

Josh Howard not as good defensively as Rip? This alone makes me think you may not be as knowledgeable about the NBA as you presume to be.

Duncan had his way with the Mavs because he is one of the greatest players ever, better than Shaq right now. As for Diaw, don't discount this rising talent playing in the perfect system and with the best point guard in the NBA. The Mavs were vulnerable in the post because of match up problems the Suns gave, problems the Heat don't present. The Mav's defensive post play will be much better with Diop and Dampier ready to bang Shaq and protect the glass. Mavs in 6 due to depth and home court.

This goes out to all heat fans- (excluding Dob 72)

You guys played a great series and won. Sorry for being a jerk in the earlier threads. Best of luck to you all, and to the Heat.

Dallas presents matchup problems for everyone. There's so big up front and so athletic everywhere. But by the same token, Miami presents matchup problems for Dallas. If they put Josh Howard on Wade, that means a guard will be responsible for 6-9, 245-pound Antoine Walker. That can't happen. **This is what Walker gives you over Eddie Jones** It's the reason why Tayshaun Prince didn't see much of Wade this time around. So there's a good chance you'll see more of "those six other guys" than you'll see Howard on Wade when Walker's out there.

I dont think so. Walker will have to spend a lot of this series at PF. If they try to play Haslem and Walker together this series it will be a disaster on the defensive end. Miami needs Posey on the floor to even have a chance at slowing down Howard.

The reason Dallas will have the luxury of playing Howard on Wade whereas the Pistons could not put Prince on him is their depth. If Miami goes with Walker at the three Avery can counter with Griffin/Daniels/Stackhouse or even Van Horn. They go 11 deep....and it wouldnt be suprising to see all 11 get significant playing time at various points in this series.

Walker spends a lot of time at PF anyway. And Posey will play a lot as usual. I agree that Haslem could see reduced minutes for the purposes you mentioned. Or more minutes with Posey. But I believe Walker and Haslem will play together a good bit for the matchup reasons I mentioned above.

He can go to any of those guys. But I don't think any of them can guard Walker for any extended period of time. Otherwise Dallas will be picking up fouls they don't need. Van Horn is the only guy with the size to matchup. And he isn't the greatest of defenders either.

Dont know if you've noticed, but Walker doesnt draw fouls. Avery could guard him and he would find a way to avoid contact. I dont really get it. Walker has a few good games and he suddenly cannot be guarded? If Walker played in the post I could understand the size issue, but he doesnt. Even when hes playing PF he prefers to sit 30 ft from the basket.

The only way I see Walker being useful in this series is if hes at PF. Draw Nowitzki out and drive on him....there is no way he can defend Walker off the dribble.
