It all went down hill in the Baltimore game after he kicked the ball out of bounds following a big time scoring drive. Completely changed momentum of that game and he went on to produce a pathetic percentage since then.
I can't argue with the numbers. How so? He's missed two kicks from the 30-39 yard range. Those should be gimme's. Two kicks from the 40-49 yard range and he's 3-7 from 50+. Give him the two 30-39 yard FGs he missed and one of the 40-49 yarders and his percentage goes up to 84.8 which is much more respectable...but about the same percentage that Carp had when we cut him.
League average from 50+ is 62.6% by the way....Sturgis is at 42.9% from 50+
He just needs tutoring from Dave Wannstedt,No in all seriousness I like the kid, give him some time.
Our coaching staff has set the kid up for failure, many many times this season.
He'll be ok if only we'd put him in better situations to succeed.
He's young, still learning. Has a great leg, just needs to fine tune the accuracy. Not his fault he missed the kick yesterday.
I can't argue with the numbers.
I just think asking your rookie kicker to hit from 50+ so many times, and too often solely relying on him to bail out an offense that struggles to score points is a colossal mistake.
His confidence is fragile. Yet our coaching staff is acting as if we have Adam Vinatieri back there.
