NEWS: Dolphins Sign Tailback Chatman

i'm sorry... but unless you're a GM like Spielman, no one in their right mind is going to give a 4th-round pick (or even a 5th) for a 28-yearold backup running back who has durability problems and lacks speed and shake n' bake...

backs with that kind of resume are a dime-a-dozen on cut-down day... why would you give up a draft pick?

Sammy Morris has no value. He has skill, but no trade value. Your last sentence sums it up beautifully. Fans of every team overestimate their players' value on the open market. The hysterical proposals are the ones that package 3 or 4 guys we want to get rid off and hope someone else will purchase the volume garbage at absurd rate, like a 3rd or 4th rounder.

Well, you might be right except for the fact that the Eagles were asking about his availibility in trade.

Morris has trade value. He's not a blue-chip RB, but he is very solid and well rounded, and has shown the potential to do well given the chance.

Put it this way "Boltphins" : ;-)

If Jesse has truly learned his lesson, and if that darn toe heals...dont be surprised him playing as 1 RB.You heard here first.

I'm wrong frequently and surprised frequently. Both will roll into one if we receive anything for Sammy Morris. All these rumors about Philly calling about Morris and/or Gordon lump into the same category as all the teams trying to trade up with us last April. More words than substance, IMO. I like Morris and hope we keep him but in 30+ years following the NFL it's extremely rare a player, especially a RB, of Morris' age and ability is worth anything at all. The league as a whole is smarter than that.

What are your thoughts on Wesley Britt- rookie T released by your Chargers?

Worth a pickup? Talented? Lazy? Inconsistent? Stupid? How did he do in PS?

Which toe is it? If it's not an important one, just lop the sucker off. We have games to win!! j/k ;)

Anyway, he sounds like a decent pick up if he can get healthy. As a side note: I wonder how much input Randy Mueller has had with our acquisitions since he's come on board?

LOL, you missed the thread a few weeks ago where several posters were trying to convince the board that Sammy was worth a 3rd or 4th rounder.

Yeah ck. There is no question the kid is talented, no question...but from what I've heard, and spoken to people out here..the injury is serious.

Put it this way, we knew we had Michael Turner as our #3, we also know how important it is to have a good back up RB..Jesse Chatman "proved" he can carry the load--why would we release him?

Injury and work ethic were the reasons he was let go. The way AJ Smith is building the team is based on CHEMISTRY, people that dedicate 110 percent all the time..Jesse was questionable. But as said, DEFINITELY TALENTED KID.

I would have to disagree there I think that with Turner and Sproles you have the Chargers squeezing Chatman out a little bit. Chatman was entering his fourth year, and soon to be a vested veteran more expensive than guys like Turner and Sproles. Yet Turner is super fast and they really have always liked his potential. Chatman is still just an undrafted guy that made good. And Sproles, they see him as a weapon in a number of different places (very Metcalf like). I could see the squeeze happening there especially if Chatman does something to tick them off like skip the OTAs and come in 25 pounds overweight.

In all honesty I have no idea. I was really excited when we selected him. Im an assuming man so I would assume it had something to do with his knees.

The guy was a beast in college when healthy--definitely a surprise to me / us.

Your remark that Sammy has no trade value whatsoever is negated by the report that the Eagles were indeed interested in a trade for Sammy Morris but the Dolphins rejected it and offered Gordon.

I agree with fans' tendencies to seriously overvalue the players on their team in trade, but I do think Morris could have garnered as much as a 6th from the Eagles.

I agree with you..no arguing from me. He was a fan favorite so letting him go was a surprise..then came out the truth about his health, worth ethic, etc...

As said, once he screws on his head right, if he does...he can be a very good player. He is somewhat similar to Lamont Jordan.

Put it this way..I AM VERY HAPPY HE DIDNT END UP WITH THE RAIDERS---

Similar to what I said about Welker when you grabbed him..half the guys in here thought I was on crack for telling you this guy will "ball" for you guys.

Her ran behind Houck's line last year, I am sure he had something to do with the pickup.

Dude Chatman was awesome last year. Why in the world did the Chargers get rid of him?!?! I know they really like that super fast guy they have now Michael Turner (he was awesome for me on Madden 2005 too lol) but still man Chatman was really good. That is weird.

Then again this is the team that released Wes Welker so I mean, either they've got a bevy of talent or they aren't interested in keeping talented skill position backups with return abilities.

after watching SG last preseason game - They have a lot of depth as well.

I'm still wondering why they released him though...

Ive heard good things of Chatman. Intereting.
