General manager Jerry Angelo was visibly downbeat about the state of talks between the Bears and agent Eugene Parker regarding a contract for rookie running back Cedric Benson. His mood probably isn't helped by similarly stalled negotiations between the Dolphins and running back Ronnie Brown and the Cleveland Browns and wide receiver Braylon Edwards, the players chosen immediately ahead of Benson.

The Bears could get some help from Edwards, who has received a major contract proposal from the Browns and was expected to decide Sunday night or Monday. If Edwards agrees, the players on either side of Benson then would have signed, with Carnell "Cadillac" Williams having signed with Tampa Bay. That would help define the market, though the huge deal San Diego gave No. 4 pick Phillip Rivers last year still is a factor.

Because he is a running back, Brown's deal all along has been looming as the potential peg for a Benson contract. But Brown's talks are as frozen as the Bears' are with Benson. Brown and agent Todd France are believed to have rejected a deal with $21 million in guaranteed money and $10 million in escalators.

did they really turn down 21 mil guaranteed?!?!?!?!?!?!?! if thats the case im moving my blame from the dolphins to ronnie and france... if thats true that sucks...

Poor Ronnie, 21 million dollars isn't enough money. I'll never see that money in my life, nor will anyone I know, EVER!

 Good 'ol athletes. He hasn't even done anything in the NFL, why the hell should he earn 21 million GUARANTEED?

I think the NFL is trying to change that so that the rookies no longer make tons of money and instead the vets get paid. That would make sense since a vet is proven and a rookie is not

well i think if braylon signs we cant be far away... i think the main problem is last year larry fitz at the number 3 got 20 mil guaranteed... so braylon and his agent will want more than that, so if france accepts 20 mil from the dolphins, braylon will most likely get more and france will not look good in the agent world... so hopefully braylon signs for like 19 or something and brown can be in camp ASAP

If the Phins offered $19 million and he asked for $22 million and the phins countered with more than 50% of the difference at $21 million and he STILL didn't accept the offer then I really think that sucks. Especially with 2 weeks of training camp already gone by and the first preseason game happening tonight.

Exactly, and you don't want to be known as the agent who represented number 2 and got less than the agent for the 3rd pick in the draft.

Wow, that is the first I've heard that one....that is a MAJOR sticking pointHow the hell is Braylon going to settle for less than 21 million? And that's if he signs a bad deal. He is for sure looking at a 15-20% increase over last years WR taken in the same spot, just like Alex got over last years' number 1, same position, apples to apples, and if he signs first, it's almost guaranteed to be above 22 million...... which the Phins have already said they won't pay.

Miami better sign Brown before Braylon or it could get a whole lot more expensive than what is the reported as the top offer already.

look, we don't know what the real #s are since the Dolphins have ALWAYS kept there negotiation of contracts out of the press. The one good thing I can say for France is that he is doing the same and keeping his mouth shut, The ONLY thing we've seen from him is a quote from an email saying 'we ae just trying to get a fair contract for the #2 overall pick".

We just don't know for sure what the exact #2 are that they are discussing, let alone what each side has said they will or won't do.

Miami needs to take that 22 million dollar offer and run with it.
