Nfl Combine Discussion Thread

On NFL network they were saying the Jets were blown away by Metcalf
Phins may have to face him twice a year.

Oh no! That's the last thing we need in the division.

Do you think he'll be as good in the NFL as those numbers?

Hard to say, I don't watch a lot of ol Miss, but he doesn't have all that great of production. I'm not sure as to why, just something I saw.

Great question and alway a hard one to answer. They've been guys that have posted great numbers like Kevin White that just disappear in the NFL and vice versa.

Supposedly he didn't really dominate consistently at the collegiate level which should be concerning in trying to project.

We'll see and here's to hoping he gets picks before #13 and not to a division team. We need those defensive players to fall.

Nobody talking about Easton Stick blowing things up?

They might if he was good at the quarterbacking part of it. Right now it seems like a really, really good athlete.

Yep. Read a few tweets mentioning a conversion to WR.

Just saw some youtube footage. He does have great feet in and out of the pocket but he's definitely a project.

Revisiting WR:

Slot possession

Brown and Samuel had outstanding days and showed that they have the potential to stretch the field more than I anticipated. Both will be higher on my overall board as a result, and I may need to remove the possession label from them altogether. Humphrey and Johnson had very rough days and will fall.

Slot Speed

Isabella had the only day of note, but he crushed it, testing well across the board and blazing in the 40. I already had him about as high as you can rank a guy that size, so his big day won't move him much for me. Been one of my favorite players foe months.

Outside Versatile

Hall jumped out of the gym and ran well (4.39). I expected him to be an elite athlete, though. Arcega-Whiteside didn't test, so I'm waiting on the reasoning, but that's not a great sign. Wesley didn't run and tested OK, but it was a bad day for him overall, and unless he runs well at his Pro Day (has to break 4.50 since PD times tend to be faster), he'll fall some. Jennings tested well in everything but the 3C and will get a slight bump. McLaurin showed elite speed and very good overall athleticism. Don't think he'll ever be a great receiver, but he can be a very good piece, and he verified that he can be a dangerous deep threat in the NFL. He'll also move up.

Outside Dominant

Harry, H. Butler, and Metcalf all showed out in a big way. Harry solidified his spot, and Butler was faster than I anticipated. I expected Metcalf to show well in the 40 and jumps, but he's EXTRA freaky - like the difference between a 99 and 103 mph fastball. I don't think he'll ever be a high-volume receiver, but he'll make a lot of big plays. Harmon stunk and will fall as a result.

Offensive Weapon

Campbell showed out as expected. I hope he goes to a team with a creative playcaller for his sake.

Just as I suspected - his athletic profile is right up there with Calvin Johnson as the best ever seen. Even surpassing some of the other 2 or 3 best WR performances we've seen at the combine such as Julio Jones, Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, etc.

He destroyed the gauntlet drill.

With time to work on the details of playing the WR position - he profiles as literally unstoppable. You just can't physically compete.

Just mentioned it, but I think you're right. Particularly as a deep threat, there's nothing you can really do to combat that. He's like a high-speed train. As I mentioned, I don't know that he'll ever be a high-volume receiver, but the way the NFL is trending, I don't think that matters very much. No one will stretch the field like him. That's for sure.
