They also like Jordan Burch as a fit, opinions on him? Another guy I haven’t been able to watch tape on yet.

Slater will be a good guard and would fit with us. Most people here look at the combine and senior bowl as being not more important than what the did with their respective teams. That would be an accurate assessment with every position except OL in my opinion. Senior Bowl practices and practice drills will show a lot of an O lineman. The reasons are simple, it is not scheme driven, and there is not any "shading" or additional protection schemes going on. You get the see the real potential of the player.

This is why Zabel is flying up the boards, if you watch the drills you saw an OT move to OG and OC and dominate his opposition. Zabel is going to be a very very fine OG or center in this league for many years. A great example of Quinn Meinerz a few years ago, who everyone ignored until he came the senior injured and starting dominating his opposition. To this day I cannot imagine why we didn't draft him (Flores btw coached him at the senior bowl).

Great points, and also with small school guys its really their only chance at the Senior Bowl and combine to show if their play on tape is translatable against bigger, stronger, more athletic guys like they will see in the NFL, and Zabel has passed every test with flying colors.

My idea scenario if Campbell is off the board is trading down to the 17-20 range, grabbing an extra 2nd, then drafting Zabel/best DT left/best safety left(hopefully Watts) with those first 3 picks.

I’m not understanding the “let’s wait for defensive tackle because there’s so many of them” argument. Let’s get the best one. if that means picking one at 13 then so be it. Why wait until the later rounds because there’s lots of them? If the one at 13 is going to be better than the one at 48, get him.
Because you have the same problem at two other positions also. CB and guard need to be addressed.

I have been a Zabel fan since watching the Senior Bowl. He impressed moving around from G to T to C even going shotgun. I think scouts should believe their eyes at game-time when evaluating. Honestly, if we traded down and took Zabel with our 1st pick at say 18, I would not be unhappy. Any player that can play 3 positions on the OLine at a high level has my attention. Especially on this team with our turnstile OLine. This guy would be valuable.
