NFL Sunday Ticket Question

Will they bill your account or do you have to pay up front?

NO!

As a matter of fact, I told him I wanted to run by my wife, and I would call back later. But he said no, I couldn't do that because this offer was not even suppose to be given to me, just to people that have had DTV for longer then 8 years. He said I had to pay right then with a credit card, or the offer would noted on my account, and would have to pay full price after that.

I hope the wife likes her new DVR! :D

I am on vacation this week and wanted to watch the Steelers game last Sunday morning. I brought my spare dish and one receiver and watched the game. I'll never go back to cable.

Thanks. I was told when I bought it 5 years ago that I could buy an adapter to convert it . It is a 36 inch Sony XBR.

Maybe it is HD ready, but with no tuner. When you get Directv or Digital Cable, they give you (or you buy) a HD tuner to hook to your TV. Maybe that is what your TV is.

I HD ready 36in. Sony 5 years ago would've probably cost like $3,000.

I did this yesterday. The guy wasn't happy about giving me the deal, but he said he had to because the deal got leaked out. He quoted me $649 at first, then told him that I heard people were getting it for $299 with the $100 mail-in rebate. He was like, well........I have to give you that deal then.

I am way excited about it! Directv HD DVR for $199! Can't beat that!
Yeah, but you guys are failing to tell everyone that you need a different dish installed. It is a large oval with 4 or so LNBs. Are they sending that as well and/or coming to install it?

yes you need a different dish for HD ...it has 3 bars on it (i think).

they provide the dish free of charge w/ install, and equipment is what you pay for. at least thats all my experiences....also just to make it clear you need an HD ready television to get HD channels.

also:

i have to post my phin area since dude posted his 110" screen which simply dwarfs my 57" sony projection....i can find solace tho because my wife thinks its a 'good size' .... :(

first pic: just moved in, using ps2 ghetto style for dvds

tvpic-1.jpg

second pic: added a Onkyo 780 Home Theater.....the speakers are a bit big, but so is the sound....simply a kickass system for a great price. The only thing better than Onkyo's are going through the process of buying everything seperate (speakers, receiver, etc.) which can cost twice as much!! (DVDS rule in 5.1!!!)

Well, I already have HD, so I don't need the new dish, but yes, the deal I got comes with free installation. They are coming the Tuesday after Labor Day. I am also having them install and Off-air antenna to get local channels in HD for an extra $50.

I really want Directv service so I can get the NFL package, but getting service seems like a headache. Is it true your unit has to be hooked up to a phone line or not?, I've been told many things - good and bad about directv, and I don't know anyone personally that has it and the salesman is going to tell you nothing but good things. Just looking for any information, advice, etc. to help me make a decision. I usually go to the bars, but It would be nice to watch in comfort of my own home. I live in Virginia and all we get is Redskins and Ravens games locally, only so much I can take of that. Also, should I cancel my cable before or after I order Directv service. I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks

my $0.02

The PHONE LINE -

They may want you to have your line plugged in, but you don't have to have to have your line plugged in. When I ordered my services, I told them that all my phone jacks were being used and to top it off I only had 3 in the house (none of which were close to my box)...and the guy said "Oh, don't worry will get you going"....and they hooked it up...

The GOOD -

You get to watch football from the comfort of your own home. You get to watch all games on Sunday, so when the commericals come on you can quickly switch it to a different game....I'm going on my 5th year with NFL Sunday Ticket and honestly, I don't know what I would do without it. It's the best thing DTV can offer bar-none (well, excluding the adult channels  )

The BAD -

The price. period.

$200.00 per season!??? you've got to be kidding me! that's alot for me....but what can I say?, they have us by the b@ll$!!!

OVERALL -

Get DTV NFL Sunday Ticket. Try it out for this season, if it doesn't work out, then simply cancel it for next season. But once you get it, I don't think you're going to want to cancel it.

Have had NFL ST since 1995 and have never missed a Dolphins game.
The only thing I don't like now is they black out the games that you get on your local stations.
For example, if the Dolphins are playing your local team (Bills, Pats, Jets for example) and that game is on your local CBS affiliate, it will be blacked out on the NFL ST.
So you better have either the local channel package or basic cable or a good over-the-air antenna to see the game.
And if you live in an area where the local game does not sell out, you're out of luck, NFL ST or not.
I want HDTV but I'll wait til the prices come down some more.
BTW, I know you need a new dish and reciever and HDTV to get DirecTV in HD but can you use your existing wiring?
It was a PITA to get ours installed and it would be great if all I had to do was put up a new dish and swap out the recievers and keep the original wiring.

I don't look at the price as being all that bad. I figure if I go to a sports bar to watch the game, I'm going to spend $10-20 each game for beer & grub. Even at the minimum $10 per, that's $160 season. I think it balances out + no drinking and driving...

Added: I've never once spent just $10. A good deal on beer is a bucket of 4 for $5 that would be the absolute minimum for the game + $5-$10 for a burger & fries

I've had mine for a year now, and I love it. It's true about needing the phone lines, but it appears from reading here that you can actually disconnect if need be? I never have. The only reason I have DirecTV over cable is Sunday Ticket, in fact! It's that important! I even got that superfan package this year for $49, which gives you - among other things - to watch games each Sunday evening in 30 minutes or less (they condense each game played that day to just the plays, and nothing else). So if you're watching the Dolphins-Jets game, and you hear that the Falcons-Bucs game was amazing that day, you can catch it in 30 minutes or less after all the games are done that day.

I've only lost signal a handfull of times the past year - and it only happens when there is extreme lightning. I live in Upstate NY, and it never goes out during plain heavy rain, or the biggest blizzards! Crystal clear, unless there is lightning. I've lost my cable about the same amount of times in an average year before, so it really is the same.

If your area gets local channels on DirecTV (which most do now, I think), I would go fully into DirecTV and tell your cable company to take a hike - but that's just me.

And believe me - every penny you pay for Sunday Ticket makes it worth it! It's God's greatest invention in my book!

hey, I worked for directv for over 1 year. the only thing the phone line is used for is so your receiver (unit) can communicate back to directv. without a phone line you simply can't order pay per views. all other aspects of the directv service work the same. No phone line is required however they tell you it is to help prevent fraud. Before you ask, fraud could be commited by having several receivers hooked up to one account in several different houses which directv may be un-aware of. With a phone line hooked up they can determine where the different receivers are and in how many residences they are located.

so to simply answer your question yes you can get nfl sunday ticket without a phone line. and for black out purposes I would give them a fake address if you live in the south florida area. you could ask why but just take my word for it;)
