Nolan to Falcons

The Broncos that won their division and were in the playoffs with the team that he selected? Yeah, destroyed them.

you guys just don't get it...the tebow thing is a fad...if he doesn't pass the ball with much more consistency it will never last...mark my words

he traded a franchise qb at like 26 and brandon marshall for a bunch of garbage...kyle orton??? you kiddin me...moron...yeah they pulled a season out their butts with tebow this year but elway sees through it thus the tebow is our starting qb "going into camp"...ha ha thats some damn vote of confidence i must say...and demarious thomas is doin this year the same thing he did at georgia tech lulling the d to sleep with the run game and then banging you once you pull your safeties out of the middle of the field over the top....exact same thing

i like d thomas he's got some talent but the broncos got hozed in those trades...hozed...and baby face mcdaniel got fired cause of em...

He signed a 2 year deal in 2009 meaning that his contract was up.

Now that he is gone I think we are probably leaning Zimmer but I thought about the following and it intrigues me also.

HC - Philbin OC-Tom Clements DC - Kevin Greene

Raid the Packers and get three damn good coaches. Kevin Greene would be an awesome hire IMO. He played for Pittsburgh and knows the 3-4 very well and would attack. He has been a LB coach for many years with Carolina and GB!

My complaint with Nolan (and I THINK I said it when he was hired) is that you will give big plays up down the middle of the field. I also didn't like how his defenses are too reliant on just one pass rusher (Parys Haralson in San Fran, Elvis Dummervil in Denver, Cam Wake here).

This year was not a good year for him. The last half of the year the D was great, BUT reports have come out that Todd Bowles took over a lot of the play calling duties on defense. How much of the turnaround was Nolan and how much was Bowles? When we were winless the first half of the season, Nolan made some VERY poor defensive calls (example having Cam Wake cover Santonio Holmes)

any dc who lets wes welker and gronkowski run unimpeded all over the field with a qb like brady under center is overrated...only way you slow those guys down is to get physical with them...and then half the time we'd have a lb like burnett lined up on the opposite side of the formation and then after the play began and it was not a run have to try and sprint to catchup with a free released te like gronk down the seam...how the hells that gonna work...we didn't even line him up over the man...

i like a 34 more than a 43 cause i think its much easier to bust on a 43 end as a pass rusher but nolan was just too soft with the coverages...

I wasn't overly impressed with the defense this game either. I thought they held their own. I think they played well enough for us to win a few more games than we did if our offense would have been more aggressive... ( dallas game, giants game)...

Point being, I think we can plug and play a new coach in there and be just as good. I've never been a huge fan of the 3-4 defense. Relies way to much on upper tier skill players and almost needs it to survive IMO.. cam wake, a stud NT, 2 shutdown corners...

i like the 4-3 better. It wasn't long ago we had a great 4-3 defense with two stud pass rushing DE's.

I think it point to a guy like zimmer coming in. It screams to me... " we are going back to a 4-3 and nolan is expendible.

I'd still prefer chudz or carmichael to zimmer, but it looks like the writing is on the wall.

you could probably get away more often with playind the way nolan did if you had 2 legit pass rushers on the outside...we had one and they rolled protection his way an awful lot...jason taylor unless he had a clean look did the 2 step and koa misi...yeah right

bar none the #1 thing we need other than a qb obviously is another legit pass rusher...is coples that guy in a 43...ehhh...i have reservations...is upshaw that guy in a 34..ehhh...i have reservations

I still want upshaw... and I find a place for him to play, if we stay at 8/9

he's got a lot going for him i won't argue that...i'm just not so sure he's got the pass rush tools and explosion qualities as a rusher that you ideally look for in a top 10 pick...

and we need a real high end pass rush talent...we could get away with misi on 1st and 2nd down if we had to...but we need a guy who can get us off the field on 3rd down and take some pressure off our secondary and lbs in coverage

He wasnt under contract. A few beat writers and talking heads on ESPN have reported he is under contract, but its just not true. There was an option to renew his contract, but Miami never excercised that option at the end of the season. He is a FA coach.

ZOUNDS:
wheres yer proof?

no offense, you could be right. but MORE reports have been that nolan had to have permission to walk, that he had another year. so i would like to see the DEFINATIVE proof of that statement.

Well this really really is just plain bad. I do not care if we were bring Shula back letting a proven product like Nolan walk is just plain bad. Now we have another question mark on this team instead of an answer. Now that points that we are going to blow up this team again which I am darn tired of and which is one of the hughe reasons we have been playing below par for so many years. Every 4 years the fans get tired of the coach we blow everything up to rebuild and do it again. We were just a good right tackle and another pass rusher from being a decent team with a good defense. Now we just bascially look like we get to suck for awhile again. Ireland, Ross or whoever is doing the planning you darn well better have it right this time or your stadium is going to remain empty with Ross missing revenue and Ireland scouting for someone else. This news is just awful

what about a leaner Vontaze?

I think he'll be a reach at where the Phins pick, but if they want a pass-rush and possibly trade down then Melvin Ingram would be the best choice.

I don't see Upshaw as the best pass-rusher in the draft, but he is the best all around 3-4 OLB in the draft. Like how Misi was viewed, only as a much better pass-rusher.
