Objectively!!! CEDRIC OR RONNIE...

Well, he sort of was. But Marcus Allen was a "backup" to Bo Jackson for about 4 years with the Raiders. I don't see anyone disparaging HIS talents...

My opinion hasn't changed. I said before the draft that RB would by the superior all around back and I stick by that. It has nothing to do with homerism since I said it before he was a Dolphin.

Credit to bakedmatt for the following stats...

Bo Jackson
| Year TM | G | Att Yards Y/A TD | Rec Yards Y/R TD |
| 1987 rai | 7 | 81 554 6.8 4 | 16 136 8.5 2 |
| 1988 rai | 10 | 136 580 4.3 3 | 9 79 8.8 0 |
| 1989 rai | 11 | 173 950 5.5 4 | 9 69 7.7 0 |
| 1990 rai | 10 | 125 698 5.6 5 | 6 68 11.3 0 |

Marcus Allen
| Year TM | G | Att Yards Y/A TD | Rec Yards Y/R TD |
| 1987 rai | 12 | 200 754 3.8 5 | 51 410 8.0 0 |
| 1988 rai | 15 | 223 831 3.7 7 | 34 303 8.9 1 |
| 1989 rai | 8 | 69 293 4.2 2 | 20 191 9.6 0 |
| 1990 rai | 16 | 179 682 3.8 12 | 15 189 12.6 1 |

So, apparently, Bo Jackson was a "backup" to Marcus Allen...I had it mixed up. Just goes to show ya, you look at the talent and the production, not necessarily the depth chart.

Of course, if Cadillac Williams came to the NFL and looked horrible, it would reflect badly on Ronnie, but Cadillac has done very well with the Bucs so far.

Pre-draft, my rankings as runners were Cadillac, Ronnie, and Cedric. I guess if I had to do things over again I'd pick Ronnie over Cadillac, so that must be my homerism in action, but it would still be very close. I was enamoured with both runners. In their own ways, they will both be dominant.

I believe they will both be pretty good, but I like Ronnie's attitude better. I think he has an attitude that will be more beneficial toward his long term success, while Cedric has the kind of attitude where you'll see a rain cloud hanging over his head wherever he goes. Never his fault, always circumstances, he'll tell you...

I agree 100%.

I hate that attitude in general, and Benson seems to believe it wholeheartedly.

I don't think anyone will argue that Ronnie is a better receiver and is a better blocker. Cedrick might be better between the tackles but the biggest difference between Cedrick and Ronnie is not football skills.
I really think Cedrick might be head case problem. We will see.
I may be wrong but it is my suspicion.

HOW WILL BE THE BETTER RB CEDRIC BENSON OR RONNIE BROWN AND WHY? BE OBJECTIVE IN YOUR REPLY!!!!!!!!

I think I'll wait to see them play at least a couple of NFL games before I can OBJECTIVELY decide.

I'm not so sure Cedric will be superior between the tackles, because Ronnie has a lot of power and hits the hole pretty clean and has good balance to stay behind blockers in traffic. More like Cedric may have more propensity to open up the big run because of his vision, same with Cadillac Williams. But what Ronnie lacks in big play potential because of his vision, he will hopefully make up for in his pure speed, and fluid ball catching.

He wasn't a backup!

Thank you! He shared carries which isn't the same as a backup. Once Ricky is back Ronnie will feel right at home. Just think how effective they both can be in the 4th quarter after the opposing defense is worn down a bit and we still have 2 rested backs. Absolute mayhem I tell you. I think we will see a lot of long runs outta Ricky and Ronnie in the 3rd and 4th quarter this season.

look at their talent and you see that Brown is more talented. He's faster, has better hands and is a better blocker

We don't have to deny reality just because we like Ronnie Brown. He was Cadillac Williams' backup. Yes, they shared the load a lot, but Caddy was 1 to Ronnie's 1A.

Who cares though? Priest Holmes was Ricky Williams' backup, and he's had a more fruitful career than Ricky has so far. Heck, Priest was also Jamal Lewis' backup with the Ravens in 2000. I personally think Priest has been a better pro than both players. I think Barry Sanders may have been Thurman Thomas' backup at Oklahoma State in 1987...or maybe it was the other way around. Whatever. You show me a guy that says that Ronnie can't be an excellent pro running back just because he was a "backup" in college and I will show you a blithering idiot.

Barry was Thurman's back up. If both Barry and Thurman played at the same exact time one of them would of been a back up. Doesn't mean that one isn't a great runningback.

Or maybe a couple of seasons.

Barry Sanders' final season of college football was 1988. Thurman Thomas' rookie season in the NFL was 1988. One year difference isn't all that big a deal. There was a lot of speculation that Cadillac might have come out last year in 2004 but he decided not to. Had he come out, Ronnie would have been by himself in 2004 just like Barry finally was in 1988.

But none of it is of a whole lot of consequence. Talented players are talented players even if they're on the same team and one of them has to play second fiddle.
