I'm not diametrically opposed to dealing Willis from a baseball standpoint since he'll fetch a lot on the open market, but we match up much better with many teams other than the Sox. Sure, they have Brian Anderson, Ryan Sweeney, and Jerry Owens in the outfield prospect category, but if we trade Willis in the position we're in now, we're getting a whole lot more than that.
Arizona and Chris Young with a whole lot more added on is a better fit than the Sox. So is LA with Kemp and Martin or LAA with Figgins, Kendrick, and Santana.
Still, there's no reason to trade D-Train any more. We have plenty of salary room to take on, and since the new CBA will probably have a quiet salary floor, someone's gotta get them there. Plus, this is the worst time to trade Willis. He's coming off a bad year by his standards. His control has been downright awful at times. Even his bat and glove were subpar relative to the last few years. If he's traded, it will be during a season when someone is really, really desperate for pitching help and will sell the farm for it. But a friendly contract extension is more likely, made even more likely by the fact that 80% of the Marlins' rotation (Willis, Johnson, Olsen, Nolasco) is represented by Sosnick-Cobbe, which means there's going to have to be a good rapport between team and agent.
