Official 76ers Thread

I feel that I know more about players coming out of college rather than overseas. With the overseas guys, it usually seems like it's more bust than boom.

for every european dirk there's a 100 guys who can't even make a damn roster it seems...but this ncaa incoming nba class is underwhelming...the ncaas this year talent wise was lacking imo...

This class is very disappointing. Even at the top of the draft, there aren't guys that get me excited about their potential in the NBA.

With the draft right around the corner, who is the guy you want to see us draft? For me it would either Faried, Biyombo, or Morris. I think they would give us good rebounding and defense, which this team could use.

This is such a weak draft, especially for the type of Center we need. About the only positive I have for this draft, is there's a very good crop of euro bigs.

My top 3 players if we stay at 16:

1. Donatas Motiejunas. Would of been a top 5 pick last year. His fall doesn't really have to do with his skills, but his body language. People question how much he cares about basketball. It's a valid concern. However, I'm looking past that and taking a chance on him. First things first, he's not a good defender, and more than likely never will be. That being said, his offensive skills are as good as it gets. He has 3 point range. He has a very good post game. He can put the ball on the floor and shoot off the dribble, as well as drive to the basket. He's an exceptional passer. High basketball IQ. Obviously, we need a defensive minded center, but I don't see any I'm a fan of around the 16th pick. Bismack isn't falling out of the top 10. Donatas has the potential to be a very good offensive player in the NBA. I can see him taking over at PF when Brand leaves.

2. Kenneth Faried. Interesting prospect. Only 6' 7.5" but is very long, and had a very good 9'0" standing reach. He's a very good rebounder. In fact, he may be the best rebounder I've seen in a while. Led the NCAA in rebounds last year, and I believe he led the NCAA in offensive rebounds as well. He's a very tough, strong player. He's also a heck of an athlete. Has a very high motor. He's a very good defender. He blocks shots. He racks up steals. He's a great man defender in the post. Offensively, there's not a whole lot there aside from him being able to use his athleticism for dunks, lobs, and points off offensive rebounds. And he gets a lot of offensive rebounds. ALOT. The competition he faced is a valid concern. However, he did play some good teams in his career. Florida and Ohio State last year. He didn't disappoint.

3. Markieff Morris. He's the opposite of Motiejunas. Where Donatas is a low floor/high ceiling type living on potential, Morris is a high floor/low ceiling type living on solid and consistent. The chances are very slim Morris ever becomes a great player, but the chances are also very slim he busts. He's the type of player who's going to have a long, solid, consistent 15 year career in the NBA, mostly coming off the bench. He's a tough player. Philly tough as they say, after all, he's from Philadelphia. He's a good rebounder. A good defender, though not of the shot blocking variety. Offensively, he can stretch the floor with his jumper, including out to the 3 point line.

Motiejunas looks like he has great game, but I don't think he really fits into what the Sixers need. I would much rather have a rebounder/shot blocker like Faried or Morris.

Faried kind of reminds me of EB in the way that he is an undersized PF who is a good rebounder and can put up points time to time. His motor is very high, which can be a big plus coming off the bench.

Morris is the kind of guy who will probably average 10 points and 8 rebounds for his career. His one advantage over Faried is that he is a few inches taller, and that can help when he has to come off the bench and guard a tall PF or a C.

I would have no complaints if the Sixers drafted either Faried or Morris.

Vucevic is the guy I want desperately. I watched a lot of pac 10 games this yr and saw a lot of his games at USC. This guy is a banger and can rebound and play with either his back aganist the rim or step out and knock down a jumper. Last yr alone he had 21 double doubles. I am telling you if he is there at 16, Sixers need to draft him.

Another guy I wouldn't mind seeing Philly draft is Jordan Hamilton. I know another sf, but man can this guy shoot. He is a legit scorer and my thiking on this is maybe, Sixers could draft him and then resign Young then trade him and maybe Lou for a legit big man. If Hamilton is there, it's gonna be hard to pass on him.

Tristan Thompson is another interesting prospect I have my eye on. I wanna see what he can do at the next level. I saw him aganist UConn this yr and he looked brutual. As the seaosn wore on, his stats improved. A little raw on the offensive side of things but his defense is very promising.

When it comes to the Sixers 2nd rd pick I would like to see another big man added. If not another big man, perhaps a gunner of sorts. I am still holding out that the Sixers can make a trade for Ellis or just make a big splash and give this fan base something to get excited about.

I agree with both of you about Faired. Watched some of his games at Morehead St and what's not to love? Has a big time motor and I think he can get a lot better with some better coaching from Dougie and the boys. Not sure thou I would wanna spend the 16 pick on him.

Earlier today I was thinking about that second round pick, and maybe Keith Benson, center, could be there. He has got good size at 6' 11" with good offensive skills, but has some defensive weaknesses. With the right coaching, I think he can be a good player.

I like Vucevic. Great size/length. Not much of an athlete, or a defender though. He is a very good rebounder. And he has a lot of game on the offensive side of the ball. He can shoot, but he's a very good player with his back to the basket. I'd prefer Motiejunas though.

I think Vucevie will be there at 16 not Motiejunas. I have seen little of Motiejunas so I can't really say much about him. I only know a big man is needed badly. If this team wants to continue to improve, they need a center, plain and simple.

I think it's very likely that Motiejunas will go in the top 10, or maybe even the top 5.

The thing is, after this draft, we're still going to need a center. Neither Motiejunas, Vucevic, Morris, or Faried are centers imo.

I'm not so sure about that. He's rail thin at 7 ft and 215 lbs. He's not very strong. He can't play defense, and really doesn't even try. Not a good rebounder. And of course there's the whole body language thing where it looks like at times he's just not interested in playing ball. Mental toughness is a question mark.
