Official Mia/Hou Joint Practice 1 Thread.

I think that partly both coach and player are testing idea's and weaknesses out for improvement, teachable moments, that's how you grow eventually.

Yes sign me up for that too! However repeating those numbers, Tua can’t just do the same things. He must improve towards that Drew Brees level of processing. Otherwise defenses will adjust and those numbers will plummet. So far I’m a little concerned if he’s making enough progress in his pre and post snap reads. At least where I expected him to be in year 2. I’m not saying he won’t make the jump, just that I thought the offense would be running a little smother than it currently is.
I think improvements will continue throughout his career. Drew Brees wasn't a finished product in year 4 either.

The reality is it’s both, he needs to stay healthy and he needs to play at a high level if we are to get to where we want to go. Nobody’s opinion on Tua, not even Tua’s opinion on Tua matters at this point, he just needs to ball out in 2023.
if the defense plays like it's capable, he doesn't have to be all pro. Just needs to be productive and clutch in certain situations. Need running game to be stronger tho to be a balanced offense and which will further help protect tua

The only stat that matters is wins. I like Tua because he is good at that, but there's still much room for growth. I do hate picks though...

I'm less worried about Tua's ability and performance as far as wins go tho. I feel the biggest thing that would cause miami to lose and miss playoffs is if Tua misses time. That's the big reason miami barely got in last season because of the 5 games he missed. Sure Tua had some off games, but Tua was slicing up GB up until he had this wacky interceptions at end of the game, and it turns out those came right after Tua was playing with a concussion in that game. I also think it's good miami has fangio not just because he's a very good defensive coordinator and he'll bring the best out of the talent. But also it's good practice for Tua. The defenses Tua struggled with had schemes I thought like fangio uses like vs chargers. I think of anything it will make Tua more prepared week 1 vs chargers after all the practices vs fangio's schemes and talented defense miami has

The thing is the AFC is SO much better than the NFC it's going to be hard to be competitive long term if you don't have a star QB. I don't want to put too much pressure on Tua but that's just the reality of the AFC. Personally all I care about is wins, but if Tua wants to get that fat second contract from us which I'm sure he does, he's going to have to play at an extremely high level because the division and conference are so loaded.

For the division, Tua just needs to stay healthy, I think he'll be good. Let's not forget. Tua is young, Allen is young. So as long as Tua plays well, miami will be in contention because Rogers is not young, he's turning 40 soon. What one more year he'll play after this? I know Brady played to 45, but that is an exception. And most qbs even great ones have a drop off after 40. So the afc east is briefly stacked. The next 5 years it's going to be only one other qb in the division Tua is competing with, since Rogers is an old qb and his career is on very end unlike young Josh Allen. That's the issue with Tua tho and concussions, if not for that, Tua would look to have a long career because of his age. But this season is the big reveal if Tua is miami's guy going forward but more from the view point of health than performance. I'm more worried about him staying healthy vs him playing well. I have more confidence that he'll play well enough to get wins for miami, compared to him staying on the field which will cost miami wins of course. I really feel if miami misses getting into playoffs it would be more due to Tua missing time during the season compared to Tua not getting wins. Tua was winnning and the team was winning when he was on the field based on his record starting and playing the whole game vs teams record without him

Bro we’ve gotta deal with Lamar, Burrow, Allen, Mahomes, Herbert, Lawrence long term. It’s a f****** problem. Just saying Tua needs to be as good as those guys, i.e he needs to be great.

it's a team game, calm down jesus. Yeah, cool Herbert is talented, but chargers have been even bigger choke artists even more than miami. I mean philip rivers was a heck of a qb but they always blew games meanwhile Big ben get steelers to super bowl and same for Eli. Yeah and jaguars defense isn't that good. You can be a winning team without having a super star qb. Niners went to damn super bowl with Jimmy G and Rams with Goff and Tua I feel is definitely better than Jimmy G and I think higher potential than Goff. Guess what miami had arguably the most talented hall of fame qb when Marino played, how many super bowls did miami get to or win? Not a knock on marino he's a great qb, but it's because of the team. Allen is great but he can be mistake prone. Miami almost beat bills with skylar thompson for crying out loud. Miami also beat lamar and ravens to with Tua so there you have it. The chiefs have won superbowls not just because of mahomes, but andy reid is a great coach too. It's that combo, not every team that has a great qb also has a great or good coach too. Jaguars could be dangerous with their qb and good coach, but they still have holes to fix. They'll be in playoffs because their division is weak

(A) Tua is better than Lamar, Herbert, Lawrence already. (B) Tua does not need to be better than any of those guys. The best QB doesn't win the SB every year. The team needs to be better than other teams.

(A) I doubt there is a single GM in the league that would take Tua over Trevor Lawrence, including Chris Grier. Lawrence is supremely talented and one of the best QB prospects in NFL history. Herbert just got PAID and deservedly so, enough said. Money talks. You really want to compare Tua to Lamar who is a former NFL MVP (and just got paid) and wins a crazy percentage of games and is breaking NFL records left and right, yea I'll bow out of that one until Tua PROVES he can play at an MVP level AND stay healthy. There's a reason Tua hasn't seen his second contract yet and Herbert has.
(B) Yes the best QB doesn't always win, but Mahomes and Brady have something else to say about that. It kinda matters when building a dynasty, which is you know, the point of the NFL.

Omar threw palu/chum into the water and the tuna came out of the blue to get some.

Don’t be a tuna.

Or else you will be on the boat deck.

If we can get a solid running game going and some decent blocking from the Oline, we will be fine.

he is a veteran in this league that we signed as a cast off from another team.

if he is great at LG for us, that would be awesome. no complaints.

but Jones was an UDFA of ours the year before last, so i would prefer one of our own products who has put the work in becomes a starting caliber player.
We are certainly starting to string together some pretty significant UDFA signings the past few seasons. Kohou, Pili, Uvuave, Robert Jones.
Even in cases where guys are just solid depth players like Jones (so far) thats a great streak to have finding talent. Kudos to the staff and Grier.
