I understand the ellipsis indicate missing words & punctuation before those "presented" words, but imply nothing is missing following them. If you wanted to justify using ellipses for the missing comma it would have looked like this:

I find playing team in Week 3 of the preseason to be fascinating. Both Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes played. Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers did not. Teams are trying to figure out how to manage the shortened preseason with 2 weeks off.

You know, when:
1) Rocket ships had big fins for stabilization (prior to vectored thrust)
2) Micro-electronics didn't exist (prior to the USA getting in to the space race and needed less electronics weight)
3) Professional football still relied on its running game to win - LOL
